Poker is a game of odds, stats, and skill over a long period of time... luck DOES play a part on a short term basis. Yes you can get rivered a few hands in a night... but the point of the game is to invest your money when you have a higher than average chance of winning... and fold when you have a lower chance. Over time (days, weeks, etc) this general rule will pay you hansomly.
I'd definitely consider it gambling... much like the stock market is a gamble.
I don't play poker to "become a better person"... I do it because I love the psychological warfar...
