There's also some less radical tinnitus relief techniques like this:

I also have the ringing. Its not a medical condition. Its being able to hear the Matrix. Sometimes I can see it a lil too.

i have a perforated eardrum in my left ear.

you'd know if you had one because you never get that pain in your head on an airplane, and when you go way below water, you dont feel much/any pressure in your head.

sounds pretty sweet, but... its a busted eardrum.

and mines chronic since i was like 6 (infections damn thee)

i figure eventaully they'll come up with a solution because as it is, i have like 80% of an eardrum but they cant fix it..

/rant

I think have tinnitus as well... I chalk it up to a series of ear infections I got from swimming about 4 or 5 years ago, as well as sinus problems. I've never really blasted myself out with music. When I was younger and not as wise, I took things a bit too far with my nice new pair of headphones, but I learned my lesson pretty quick. Even still, I've never actually been deafened or had pain from loud music, I've always been careful. I've never set foot inside a club or concert without a pair of earplugs in my life. When at home, or in my car, if I couldn't hear the sound of my own voice, I'd turn it down.

Despite this, I hear a hum in my ears when it's dead quiet. It's almost like the hum coming from a regular tube TV.. really high pitched. But it's almost like it's not even there. It's weird. It's also uniform in both my ears, which makes me believe it's sinus problems, not actual hearing damage. When I had those really bad ear infections, I had 2 in my left ear and one in my right. Ever since then, my left ear seems slightly blocked compaired to the right. Despite that, the hum is still uniform.

Back in the motherfucking day I used to go clubbing at Gatecrasher/Godskitchen on a weekly basis. Thank fuck for ear plugs. I think I would probably be as deaf as my Grandad if it weren't for this genious invention. w00t.

i have tinnitus as well....i heard that gingko bibloba can help tinnitus, and i took it for awhile, but i didn't notice any difference.

mine isn't bad; i only notice it when there is no background noise.

i don't have the balls to risk damaging my ears more w/ear candles.

i really need some earplugs that are somewhat comfortable. any suggestions?

I hear those are good, they stick out a little but they are comfortable and do their job. I'm actually thinking of getting some this week.

No you can't cut the stems and wtf is wrong with them sticking out?

People with reactions like " Oh no I don't want people to notice I'm wearing earplugs " make me sick.
I'd compare that to having one night stand left and right and refusing to wear protection.

Now on the other hand if your reaction came from the fact you'd like to dj with them then that is a different situation. If you want to stay on the cheap side and have efficient protection and still be able to dj you could get these:
http://www.hearos.com/products-02826.htm
They are rated as some of the most noise reduction rating earplugs on the market but to be honest the sound resolution isn't all that great and with that much of reduction you really don't hear much.
