Considering SgtFoo works there, and was there when it happened, I think he has a better idea of what went on.

As for the metal detectors, they used wands, just not the airport security type -- so the person who had the gun did their best to sneak it in and managed.

As for the shooting, it happened inside the club.

Ya I'm good, but what I'm more worried about is business (ie job security) at the club in the aftermath of any press/news about the shooting.

If it's no problem, can you say what happened, if you know?

Around 345am, I was standing doing my thing in the sound/lighting booth when allofasudden, I heard what sounded like a balloon popping (but 10 times louder). Everybody started screaming and panick ensued, and I ducked for cover behind the booth's walls, began shutting down the sound system. About 30 seconds or so later, I think 3 or so more shots went off in the stairway toward the exit at the front. Cops & security who were in the club began yelling "everybody out of the club now!"
About 20 minutes later we were all outside the club giving info the the cops & detectives on site. What looked like a SWAT team ran in the club and I guess they empted the place of what threat was probably already long gone. I guess they were the final security measure.
Once I gave the police my info I was free to go like all the staff.

I must say... at least we were prepared... The club had asked a few cops to hover around the entrance all night for security reasons, and I think somebody mentionned some undercover cops inside the club.

I didn't know he worked there and I'm glad he's ok. *whew*

As for how the gun got into the club with frisking and wands, I still blame security and or the owners as they must not have done a decent job considering the shooting occured inside the club with cops present (at least that's what has been said in here).

How many stabbings and shootings are we gonna hear in Toronto this year? Geez it's only March. This is really sad. I wish some people would just grow a brain.

What was the crowd like?

And why do clubs still hold ghetto nights? I went through a shooting once at a hip hop event back in 2000. That was the day that cemented my hatred for the genre at clubs. I have seen time and time again what filth that music brings to a club.

I had to watch a co-worker die right in front of my eyes.

sadly the only laws i see on the horizon are tougher laws on nightclubs. When the real problem are the criminals.

But blaming locations rather than culprits is the easy way out.

The odd thing, is that we have pin pointed the problem as being one associated with hip hop and the culture that it breeds.

Whats the first thing that comes to mind when something threatens scociety? Ban it or make it illeagal. In this case that would be a gross crime against free speech and expression of art.

Im just curious, does anybody have any ideas on how to help curb the effect that hip hop is having on the public? Other than banning it?

Ive been thinking about it, and I just cant think of a logical, plausible, and fair solution.
