my distaste is not for the american people and never has been. It is simply for the country as a whole's ridiculous notions that they are the be it and end all of this planet.

Oh and i really don't like their government

NOTHING beats the service you'll get at some of the eastern southern grocery stores... for example, Piggly Wiggly (MY FAVOURITE simply based on its name... im a die hard supporter and customer FOR LIFE)... god the service they give you is insane... you NEVER see it up here...

they have ppl who put your groceries into your cart after the person bags it and then they PUSH the fucking thing out to your car and help you load it in!!

I was so shocked years and years ago when I was young and first saw this! It was so foreign to me! But what a nice little perk! Its was so awesome! Creates such a positive impression of that grocery establishment!

Jem

EDIT:

ANd the customer service ppl where JUST so bloody friendly, from the shelf stockers if you had to ask them a question, to the person that rings up your purchases, to the cart-out-to-your-car pusher... just phenomenal... such more "customer friendly oriented" than I've ever experienced here anywhere in Canada

I am in NO way saying that ALL american's are like that. I not only have relatives who are American, but I have met a lot of friendly American's. I guess it's just b/c many of the American's I've come in contact with seem to be like the stereotypical American jerk. But that's the way it goes with any stereotype.

Yea ur right, and its unfortunate you ran into then. I can tell u that people from more liberal areas (chicago, los angeles, even Detroit) are nice laid back people and not the retards you proly encountered like new yorkers/southerners...

but at the clinic, i had 101 degree fever, and i couldnt really speak b/c my tonsils were so swollen. i even asked the lady "are you serious?" when she said that b/c the first question she asked me when she saw me was where i was from. lol. weird.

i've been saying that since before the election here. it's canadians self-pride in thinking that we're "oh-so-perfect" and nothing bad ever happens here.

when it does though, its americas fault

actually we do get a say. I can vote Rep for house and senate and differently for president. The last ballot had spots for all of the us presidential canidates. I voted Dem all the way down. Regional/county elections in my district I tend to vote Republican though due to issues I won't get into here.

yes the electoral college votes the president in to power but we vote specifically for E.C. votes that are designated towards a specific president.

+1. i deal with many US customers every day, and I should say that on average they are not as nice and pleasant as Canadians are. But as Lisa said, not ALL americans are like that. I hate generalization!

I know but that system is so sketch. look at what happened in 2000 when Gore had more vote from the people and Bush won.

thsoe who say americans are rude etc etc..

my theory is this...

Toronto people are very monotone. They find anyone with a strong personality to be wierd. Anyone who may be a bit louder, more vocal etc etc is seen here as being rude. This goes even in an entertainment situation. This is why our concerts, nightclubs, and hockey games are notoriously quiet. We also dont like to rock the boat whereas a typical american will tell it to your face if you are being a dumbass.

I personally respect the american way of dealing with things. They will let you know exactly how they feel. No "all is happy" faces followed by twofaced backstabbing as we like to do.

I usually do. In certain regions for instance you can generally pick up different mentalities that change greatly across the country. I give everyone individually the benifit of the doubt that they are intelligent and kind people until I find out otherwise. This thread is obviously geared towards sweeping generalizions about americans... My statement were solely geared towards the 'when i have anit-american feelings, I have them because....' kind of thought process. This is not to say I have them all of the time. I am American so it would be kind of dumb for me to assume all americans are dumb hicks with no moral fibre all the time, my family and friends probably wouldn't associate with me much anymore after comments like that.

I am one of those people that cant stand the word America and by that Iam mostly talking about the government of the country.Iam against most of their policies since none of them have any logic in them and most of them are nothing but propaganda.
I will continue to bash these assholes till they are out of the office.

Iam glad they are getting their ass kicked everyday in Iraq. They deserve it and I hope they learn their lesson next time they decide to go and invade a country.

GO IRAQI'S GO
