You're also forgetting WOW..."Ajare" from 1994 and "Domination" and "The Gift" from 1996 have aged nicely.

Another gem that has aged nicely? Spooky's "Little Bullet" from 1993.

you all mention tracks that didnt get anywhere in the charts..

in my first thread starter i compair universal nation to tracks that got in similar positions..

bt - well known but not as mainstream as gouryella and out of the blue, carte, alice dj, fire wire etc etc.

universal nation got into the uk top 20 if i remember rightly.

im talking about tracks that were mainstream back in 98/99. - during the era of trance.

carte blanch is a typical example. this got somewhere similar to universal nation in the charts. but the synths etc etc sound so cliche cos ferry was the main producer back in those years.

there aint one mainstream track from 98/99 that compaires strength wise over the 8/7 years they have been around. FACT!

Since when do charts determine what's quality and what's not?

To be fair, how many trance tunes achieved mainstream success at that time? A handful at best.

my point was that universal nation was the only track to get into the charts that does not sound like a cliche trance track of 99!!!

and this is a valid point. you seam to be bending what i said. i did not for one second say that trance was not good unless it got into the charts.

again...

'my point was that universal nation was the only track to get into the charts that does not sound like a cliche trance track of 99!!!'

now somebody name a track that honestly has the same aging value that made it into the mainstream charts. there aint one!

If you count the UK Top 40 as mainstream success, then there were at least 50.

I'm sorry, it sounds dated!!

That's because it does not feature 50,000 layers, is not overproduced, has a focus on a distinctive melody etc etc. It is simple and effective and therefore if dropped in any set today people would be woken from their coma's.

Westbam vs Red Jerry - Wizards of the Sonic (Matt Darey Remix).

Now this song has aged EXTREMELY well, you can drop this anywhere in a set today and it'll fit.

the Original Universal Nation definitely sounds dated.. but you gotta put it into context. Back then it was very original. Still a good tune to this day tho!
