i just want to add one of the best and propably one of the most underrated tunes of 2002:

Hemstock & Jennings feat. John 00 Fleming - The Nazarean off the Genetica EP.
amazing tune and so much better than the stuff H&J spits out nowadays.

I started know trance with proper knowledge in 2002, and I liked that year... I like most of the 2002 tunes mentioned by the posters in this thread...

2002 tunes are much better than 2006, imo... the tunes were more different, today everything sound the same, except some original tracks by the new producers in the scene...

I also agree with you, I think '02 was a really predominant year in trance.... and this year is slacking in comparison.

A lot of you seem to enjoy the production 2002 provided us. I guess my detachment from the scene during that year is the reason so much cheese found its way into my collection.

Some of you pointed out some great tracks that I eventually collected in 2003, in some cases 2004, that will fit nicely in my compilations (i.e. Altitude (S.H.O.K.K. Remix)). Thanks!

1996-1999 were the best, much more emotion in the music than recent trance
2000-2002 were still good, but less good releases, 2002 is cool tho.
2003-2006, trance is going in a way i never wanted, less electro and more emotion pls...

Agreed, I think everything is in a funk right now. I think the whole theme that has been going on the past two years where 80% of tracks has a piece that sounds like it was borrowed from another track (for example, I was at an event recently and I swear about 40% of the tracks where going to be Jump the Next Train during the transition...because the damn bassline is the exact same one (not saying Jump the Next Train was the first track with that bassline, just I associated all these tracks with it at the time)....and I still hear a lot of tracks are going to be As the Rush Comes...just because the track has that same "three beats" that ATRC has.

Although it's probably just me.

Just need some originality in tracks, though.

There's plenty of emotional tunes, if you're asking me.
*equips Armor Of The Flame*
From time to time, there's tracks in the ASOT show that are really emotional. Two examples are:
Midway - Cobra
and
PG2 - Forum Of Love (Danjo & Styles Remix)

Those are two quick picks, I can pick out some more.

'Southern Sun', wasn't that 2002?
Also we had Signum's 'Second Wave' and one of my favourite tracks ever - 'Darren Tate vs. Jono Grant - Let The Light Shine In'.

But yeah, on the whole I guess it was a bit lousy.
Certainly the "chart trance" was at its absolute worst in this period.

And nothing happened in 1990-1995, I presume?
