Would draught count as "severe weather"? Every year the city where I live reaches Saharian-like levels, which is not all that bad, since we can tolerate high temperatures more easily

+1 Ever thought about how the US would be without those horrible natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados and other storms?

I guess my main concern is long-term climate change (see the "we didn't listen!!!" thread). But on a serious note, as the climate warms (human cause or not), we only have more of this severe weather to look forward to. I really want to invest in a storm shelter. We will have to go into debt to build one, but it won't the the first time we've been in debt. Wait, we are anyway.

Worse for us was by far the Ice Storm in January 1998, more then 75% of the province was out of hydro for many days. Curse that global warming!

2 words come into mind.... Global Warming. Which probably explain all the twisters that were happening in Tennessee resently.

That looks so cool, i've yet to visit the midwest.. i would love to just chill in a field with nothing around me.. but only for a short time then i'd want to come straight back home lol

When I was real little we lived in Texas for a few years and one of the few memories I have is waking up in the middle of the night, going outside onto the front porch, looking to the left and straight up seeing a tornado about...oh, i dunnno, a few hundred yards away going parallel to the street that went down the side of my house (we lived in a corner). It was a small tornado, but it was going pretty straight and going right through all the drive ways tearing up all the cars.

I was literally like 3 or 4 when this happened but I remember it clear as day. Weird.

Actually never been through a bad hurricane even through I lived 80% of my life in Florida up until I was just about to turn 21. Packed my bags and moved to San Francisco for work.

I do remember in 1998 when a severe system was coming through central (Orlando/Ocoee) Florida overnight....was like 3am and watching a special news report from the local station tracking a tornado that had touched down about 10 miles from me...then they zoomed into the map and drew a line of the path it was expected to go and the weatherman straight up said it would be hitting my street in like 15 minutes or something. Totally freaked out ran and woke up my parents and we got all situated....nothing ever happened.

Turned out that the turnado jumped back up about five miles before my house and then came back down a good 10-15 miles past it. Believe it was a F3. There were a couple dozens tornadoes that night. 40+ people killed. Deadliest tornado event in Florida history. Remember how one went through a trailer park right across the way from where the Houston Astros were staying during spring training in Kissimmee, Fl. Like 25 people killed there alone.

The coolest weather event I've ever experience was in the early 1990s when a HUGE massive hail storm slam central florida...my lawn had like a foot of hail on it. All the cars outside had the windows severely damage or smashed. Cars just all beat up in general.
