I think Lance has an important point. However, Nick is still a Dj that has come down over the years. IMO. Maybe, my taste for prog has changed quite a bit, i think prog is still the way to go in many sets, but minimal techno is eating up my ear.
I think James Holden and the whole crew from Border Community (Nathan Fake, Petter, Dextro, Extrawelt...etc) are pushing boundaries.
In addition, There are various producers who are dropping bits of trance into minimal techno, such as Jesse Somfay and Ziggy Kinder.
My point is, people that think "Djmag" actually means something, are prob the people that will fight pro-tiesto and stuff...I don't know if im making sense here but you in order to breakthrough as an artist, you should always break boundaries, not only with skills but with new music.
I suggest you listen to these and tell me what you think
Nathan Fake - Drowning in a Sea of Love (Border Community)
Alex Smoke - Incomunicado (SOMA)
James Holden - ATC (Border Community)
Matthew Dear a.k.a Audion- Fabric 27 (Fabric, UK)

Complete and utterly shameless Boards of Canada rip-off, IMO.
I will give you that new James Holden comp, though, which is something else.
Nick's partner-in-crime, Jody, has done an understated job of moving electro back in the prog direction with stunning results ("Cold Drink, Hot Girl").
