OMG i feel a tumor coming on....

So you must be saying that drawing, painting, sculpting, and even making music are just technical skills that anybody could do with practice?

I disagree.

Unless he has some sort of reasoning for the particular view, location, subject matter, and so on, other than "I wanted to create a realistic image on photoshop" its just a technical drawing...

na, thats not what i'm saying

i'm sayin it seems as if this guy's only motivation is to make a drawing thats technically difficult, and that does not impress me much.

but who knows, there maybe much more behind it then i know... just from first reading this, it seems more like a technical challenge than an artistic one.

obviously he had a reason for it, hence why it is a good piece of art.

the lighting, colour and composition are all thought out in advance. He chose this medium probably because he enjoys working in photoshop and it was a challenge.

well, thats what we are assuming.

the only info about the pics provided are technical stats on how big the files are, the number of layers, etc. and nothing about the artistic perspective from the artist.

so its being commended as "a great art piece" when its only being portrayed as a technical drawing.

I dont think you ever need the artistic perspective from the artist to enjoy a good piece of art.

Actually, you barely ever get that. Think of Michelangelo or Da Vinci...we have no input from the artists, yet most accept thier works as masterpieces.

Not once have I had to explain my "artisitc perspective" to anybody, because it is evedent in the work it's self. In this case we have some extra information on the construction. I would love to know the specific methods of all famous artists, because it would give more insight into thier creativity.

yup, that's true.

but you can't deny the fact that it is being celebrated more for its technical achievements than it is its aesthetics.

and personally, aesthetically, I don't like it. but thats just my opinion.

Fair enough, art is subjective and I can appreciate if you dont like it. Personally (because my art is mostly digital) I have always enjoyed photoshop paintings, especailly speed-painting, and I can appreciate how much work went into this; but I also like the finished product.

here are some good examples of speed-painting (not mine, done in photoshop with a Wacom Tablet) with the time taken for each image.

1 hour 10 minutes

30 minutes

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Digital Art. In fact most of my works are digital as well.

Just that if someone is calling this a great art piece because of the technology and so on it is not right. But if you actually appreciate the image painted by the artist, then by all means, call it great.

Just think, if this same image was painted using Oil Paints, would you still consider its a "great art piece"?

I agree with Mahan on this. I appreciate the piece as a display of mastery with Photoshop, but not as a great work of art. Nobody calls technical sketches (like the stuff engineers make) a work of art. Just looking at it, it seems devoid of nay kind of feeling. Although, maybe that's what the artist wanted to communicate.

I like #1, vintage-looking stuff sets my heart on fire

#2 is lacking imo, the car is funny-looking

#3 is good, but a bit too simple

#4 is good, but the water itself looks very unrealistic and not like water at all. Looka tthe difference between the water in #1 and #4.
