Funny, it makes me feel like I'm stood in an overcrowded superclub in 2001 and the only thing that's likely to happen in the next few minutes is a new hi-hat. Papua New Guinea is most definitely not a dark track, and Tomiie's mix feels like a bunch of Dead Can Dance samples scattered over an unrelated B-side. I love prog and dark prog is awesome when done well, but I've always felt this track is massively overrated. Then again, I don't like many of the Papua New Guinea remixes. The only ones I'll give much time to are the Oil Funk Dub, Journey To The Pyramid, Papsico and whatever Translation 3 was called. Some tracks just don't need fucking with. |
I'm generally very critical towards remakes of old tracks which I've mentioned numerous times here through the years. But Satoshis remix of Papua is one of the few tracks which really brings it. I still pop on the 12" once in a while. The bassline is just stellar. Satoshis remix of Kosheen - Hungry is another in the same vein. Good shit.
Speakiong of good remixes of old tracks. Vernon - Wonderer (Son Kite remix). Another very good interpretation of a classic done good.
