I did the warping for them which I think they took for granted because it only took me half an hour to do. And in the process I showed them my technique, which took me a lot of time to perfect, but is easy to learn.

Soooo I wonder if I should do a video on it. I could probably do it this weekend. And if you wanted to FTP me the tracks I could use your tracks as examples for the video. If this sounds interesting PM me and we can work out the details.

(Please nobody else PM me. If I do it I'll post it for all to see.)

Please do this.

Not much other advice that I can give that hasn't already been given, but if you'd like to hit me up on AIM/MSN Nem that would be cool, I prefer talking to people 1-1 than writing out a long post on a forum.

There are very specific ways to warp tracks based on zooming in as close as possible on the waveform view, everyone has their own method. In any case, proper warping is the key to a good ableton mix, beatmatching wise. If you aren't good at warping, your mixes will not be tight as they could be...

And you need to realize warping is EASY AS HELL.

When you have a good technique down, it is. It takes me about a minute and 30 seconds to warp a track now vs. like 5-10 minutes when I started.

Takes me a minute or two, but still that's very easy because you can for the most part set it and forget it. I'd still like to see vids of someone using Ableton. I like vids.

Zild & Clovis86 -- I'm sure we have a pretty similar approach. That's want I'm gonna get in the video -- tomorrow.

I think people _way_ over complicate it as well. But it's easy to think like that once you can do a warp in a minute or two.

Does anybody know of a good+free Mac screen recording program? I'm thinking I'll have to use the Tech Smith one which means a PC and I'll need to go in to the office, etc.

I dunno if it happens to you guys, but sometimes i hit save and ableton doesn't save the warping data of some of my tracks. So i have to do it again in the middle of my mix. I spend around 1 minute to do that, which is longer than if I was beatmatching them with cd players or TTs, but yeh it used to take me much longer!

While I see Ableton as a great tool I tend to regard it as something I will use if it becomes the standard in terms of DJing. I still think the digital explosion (and yes, it's coming) has not yet graced u with the full impact of what can be done.

Mate, you have just hit the fucking nail on the head about as hard as you can there.

I couldn't agree more with you and I reckon I speak for many people against digital DJing this is why we are against it.

We could all play radio edits of tracks if we want, but why dont we? Cause they are shit. Same with ableton Just cause you can layer 18 tracks at once, or mix in track C into B as A fades out, dont mean its gonna be good.

+ 100 000 000 for you sir!

So true... I never have more like 4 tracks running at the same time, but it's not about that. with the different loop assignment, running vocals or just changing the constant beat to a breakbeat using another track, it's just so much fun :P
I haven't even reached the effects part yet

I love ableton its very very cool, and i use it alot for different kind of things, but for djing i dont think its good, cus with warping the tracks your actually sucking out the groove out of the track, sure you can set the swing in ableton later, but every track has its own groove when its produced and warping just sucks out the groove.
its a killer of a software thou!
