When a producer comes with an artist album; all the tracks are from the same 'breed'; and often have much elements in common. If tracks are in full length you can judge what the producer did entirely; whether the buildup is good, the extra's are allright etc. In other words: I want to judge his capabilities completely.
When all tracks of the same artist are mixed, it brings some disturbing things with it: There's no real story, because the tracks won't be very diverse; If you want to listen to a particular track (e.g. track 4); then it will start INSTANTLY in almost the middle of the track and all the starting elements are already gone. It doens't give a proper image of the track as a whole.
I said this out of expercience of some albums released lately... Take a listen to:
Mark Norman - Synchronity; the 2nd cd is a mixed cd with all his older tracks, and this mix sounds boring as shit, coz in the end it all starts to sound the same; whereas each track individually is masterpiece.
Mojado - Arena
Airwave - Trilogique
...
(there are others too; can't remember them now, lol)
And for a personal matter I like unmixed cd's too; because then I can use it to Dj with

I feel albums should be judged as a whole, and not as a collection of individual tunes. Therefore I also think mixed CD's work better... but ONLY if they're done well.
I know what you mean about those albums and I agree that that kind of mixing is quite bad. It's very common when it comes to trance albums, and I think most trance artists shouldn't even be making albums since they're usually just a bunch of singles thrown on the disc with no real thought to it. Another reason for these albums being bad is the artists confusing "theme" with "using the same sound throughout the entire album". I feel albums should be like older Junkie XL and BT albums - not just beatmixed but made to sound like the tracks belong together like the whole album was made in one sitting.
So... in a way I disagree and agree at the same time... if that makes any sense
