cheap wines i like louis jadot pinot noir. also la crema are verty good cheap wines. 20 bucks range.


as for expensive wines the best iv had i cant recall the name but they were from south africa.

i prefer whites over reds. my favourite white ATM is wolf blass yellow label riesling (australian). new zealand also has some nice sauvignon blancs. i like most white varietys (sancere, sauvignon blanc, rieslings, pinot grigios), except for chardonnay. i just cannot stand the heavy sometimes woody, buttery taste of chardonnays.

as for reds, my favourite is simonsig 1998 pinotage (south africa). i love that stuff, but i cant find it anymore . if and when i drink a red it will be a pinot noir, burgundy, or a rioja. i do not like merlots at all and i am picky about cabernets, althought a nice bordeaux i like. even though they are basically the same thing, for some reason the bordeaux tastes better.

as for regions i prefer australia, new zealand, south africa, germany, france and chile. i dont think the california region is all that great.

i think opus is overrated and same as silver oak (both napa and alexander valley). not all expensive wines are better. i work with wine so i have had the opportunity to taste quite a bit of wines.

red wine. Ive had 200 dollar bottles of white wine and they just dont taste good to me.

except I learned that if you want to make white wine taste less shitty, put a shot of vodka in. Smoothes it right out.

for reds, I enjoy really earthy pungent italian wines the most. Australia has had some great wines coming out though.

I've been known to down some bottles and as of right now, I'm really keen on the Shiraz, Syrah, Sirah's and Petite Sirah's. From what I've learned as far as the numerous names and pronunciations, it's all the same varietal, just different growing regions. I'm trying to find the different feels on the palate, different fruit forwards, and amount of tannins. My favorite thus far has been the Petite Sirah. So juicy. Smooth and velvety. I love the satin feel of Pinot Noirs, but after exploring the Petit's, Pinots are now almost flat to me. The Petite's deliver a tiny punch, making them more memorable imo.

Still, I'm a fan of the Jadot Pinot's. I see Javi's influence rubbing off on everyone

Clos du Bois & Menage a Trois are some other affordable labels with a taste worth the price imo.

I just went to a wine tasting last week. There were easily 3,000+ bottles and only about 15 people in attendance. Each person was given a sheet of different varietals and their Tier's. Tier 1 being the cheaper wines (cost, not quality as sometimes people like to think) up to Tier 4's (more expensive) and rate each wine. Afterwards, we were able to drink whatever we wanted. Free drink! free food and free knowledge. I would definately suggest you take that opportunity.

Alot of South African wines mentioned. What do you all recommend?

wine tastings are fun, i work them when our restaurant has them.

anyone here like champagne? i love it. veuve cliquot is definitely my favourite, the yellow label non vintage. i think that beats out dom perignon. krug is a really nice champagne as well. as long as it is a brut then i am happy. veuve makes a great brut rose. moet i do not care for at all, the white star or the brut.

Had some vintage Moet on my bday and it was far too dry for my tastes
