A good win by the lads, we certainly looked good at times. Archie brings a lot of pace to the front line and I think with kewell back we could be pretty dangerous with dukes also holding down the centre half forward posy. Skoko’s goal looked like it was travelling in slow motion as we were right behind it, but after looking at the replay it certainly was a cracker..

Well done Paulie C for the 5 flares, that added excitement for the Greek Ppl who’s National Team was so fuckn boring im glad I had my NAB blow up finger to keep me entertained while you guys had the ball.

4 schooners before the game I thought I could be in trouble today at work but no …got home at 10 and snuggled straight into my dbl doona… too friggin cold, but I am soft.

Onwards and upwards to Germany! Go Aussies!

what people dont seem to understand, is that its not just about ethnicity or culture. many of the greek aussies would have been followers of greek soccer for ages, coz, as an international side, australia has done fvck all and for all intents and purposes they havent had an international squad in our life time. only the second qualification in 30 odd years for the world cup- now, who is going to \"give up\" the team theyve been following half their life just coz australia gets onto the world stage for once?

i wish the roos all the best, but damned if im gonna support them over a team that ive been following since i was in highschool. especially not for a side that might not play again for another 30 years (or in euro ever). come world cup soccer time, my colours are strictly red & white

hey MissyM, I hear popping valium allows you to turn caps lock off and chill the fuck out.

people are fogetting greece came here on holiday and all of the greek players have high paying contracts with large european clubs so an injury to them would put their career with their high paying clubs on hold...i think the ignorance of the new found aussie supporters is pretty tragic...albeit, its good to see the sport making a move here as well...a friendly is a friendly and i think both sides were pretty weak as the game progressed...no one wants an injury!

Off to Germany they go with a bang! Hopefully this spells the beginning of AFL's decline and soccers gained popularity in Australia.

It's not like an AFL side can compete at any world event?!

Greece played like crud, not because australia didnt let them play, but because they showed a lack of intensity and lack of commitment, after all, its a friendly, greece had nothing to gain from it, in saying that though, the aussies really impressed me, the way they created space for one another and knocked the ball around was impeccable.

oh no here we go. why would you want to wish decline upon a sport that has been entrenched in australian culture for 150 years? can't both sports co-exist and flourish together?

yeh the game looked pretty pedestrian at times but of course i know nothing about soccer.

couldnt agree more.

the g was absolutely pumping. awesome atmosphere and everyone was really into it. the greeks were pretty sloppy to say the least. they didnt create space and often went forward in small numbers.

the aussies on the other hand moved the ball quiet well and created much more opportunities. things are looking bright

i didnt know who to go for. the aussies scored early which made me back greece a bit more just so they'd make a game of it. didnt happen.

oh and soups how about u get a clue and watch a few games rather then studying the fifa squads.

big thnx to paulie for some afterparty heroics and driving home drunk. a sore head makes for a lazy day at work i tihnk..

^^ what do you guys mean about the \'ignorance of the new found aussie supporters\'? the only thing i really noticed was the boos when someone passed back to the keeper (which i admit annoyed me a tad hehe).

Fortunately we don't have to put up with AFL in NSW and Soccer is the most played sport by youths and adults up here of every culture (I had 9 different nationalities in one of my soccer teams). It really suprised me when someone in melbourne told me Football is called "wog ball" in melbourne because only 'ethnics' play it, i think it's a pretty sad indictment actually

I'm quite happy to debate this one with you Chris.

I think both sports are excellent, last night was one of the best nights i have had at the 'g', and they will ultimately co-exist really well, but that's such an ignorant comment you've made. I'll give you a few reasons why...

1. How often can Australia (or any other team) compete in a world event? Every four years, meaning that in the interim there's a hell of a lot of downtime isn't there You've just dissed the "new found aussie supporters" and their "ignorance" but ultimately if Australia doesn't have them then it has nothing, so maybe it's attitudes like that that keep the general population from following soccer on a regular basis?

2. So you're saying that Greece came here on a Holiday? And that people should understand that? And that international clubs take precident (which is understandable). Well that's another reason why this won't be the beginning of AFL's decline because if the players are not taking it seriously then why should anyone else?

It's divisive attitudes like yours Chris which will ultimately only mean that soccer stays where it is at the moment on a local level, which is well and truly in the background - and that would be a real shame.

PS. did anyone see the pitch intruders at the end getting paraded handcuffed in front of the press for photographs?

1. I am very chilled! 2. CAPS ROCK! 3. lol@valium. AS IF!

Footy & Soccer cannot be compared. They are both in a league of their own! Footy will always be Australia's number 1 sport, I rekon anyways!

I agree & am also happy soccer has gained the well deserved attention its been getting, although why stop at just supporting Australia, fair enough even if you're not all that into the sport, you still wanna see Aus do well, but if people really like the game-go support or attend other soccer matches. There are heaps of leagues out there & some teams are really fun to watch.
Go Polonia!!

Yeh well anyone who wouldve said that is an IGNORANT, UNEDUCATED FOOL! Soccer is embraced by ALL NATIONALITIES, I have a few friends who are as Aussie as you can get, who play in a league & love their soccer!
