Right, well, I'm sicker than hell and running on three-hours of sleep between school and 40 hours of work, so for what it's worth, here's my review before I crawl into bed and die.
I really liked it. Until now (62:00), I was going to ask you where the hell the Ableton stuff came into play, but I finally heard the effects. Superb job of mixing between CDJ and Ableton (I assume that's what you did), which I've been struggling with for quite some time now.
I liked how chill the set was; with all of the shit I dealt with today it was nice to come home and relax before hitting the sack. In addition, I like how you were able to put together a set that defines your sound and be so sure of it. That's the main problem I'm having with the set I've been trying to put together since February; I've gone through multiple different styles of House, but I think I've finally found one that really fits me so I should finally have a new one out soon.
Anywho... Excellent mix, I'll probably have it on repeat for a few days.

Finishes off in a very inoffensive fashin which was a bit of a let down for me as I wanted maximum impact outro.
Solid mix though mate. |
Thanks for the thoughts Coded! Always glad to hear some input from yet another TA DJ who's always putting out ace mixes!
The track at 50:00 that I believe you're talking about is Golan Globus - Blazer, and yeah, that's an absolute rager! I've loved it ever since the Sasha Glastonbury 2003 set

Re: Rob Turner - Glamorama
alright here you go RJT. i didn't really read the thread because i didn't want what other people were saying to influence what i think...so sorry if some things are repeated...
Spirit Catcher - Between Brothers (Tejada Mix) ---> Nutrunner - Open Spaces (Original Mix)
first mix is ok. the timing of the mix is good. first listen through i thought something weird happened around 5:15. listening to it a couple of times i could tell that the nutrunner track kinda has like a weird timing for that one sound so it sounded a little awkward for a second. i don't think you could really do much about it...and really considering the style of the tracks, it allows you to get away with it ya know? just first listen through i was like "wait...is this beatmatched?" and i really like that nutrunner track...nice bassline.
Nutrunner - Open Spaces (Original Mix) ---> Audiofly X - Mind Goes Blank (Orignal Mix)
another good mix. that sound on the incoming audiofly X track seems like it could really just take over so you did job at controlliing it and keeping it down until the right time. tracks go well together and the energy flow in the set is flowing in the right direction.
Audiofly X - Mind Goes Blank (Original Mix) ---> Jimpster - Don't Push It (SWAG's Just Pull It Mix)
pretty sure this mix is a little off when you first start bringing it in. sounded like you started to mix in, heard it was off...then took it out to correct. it sounds like you might have tried that twice before the final mix? is that you or just the song? i was thinking maybe this was one of the laptop songs and you had it looped and were trying to lay over the top or something. if it's the song that'd be a wierd choice of percussion...sounds off, but i think it was you i dunno. sounds like a difficult song to mix either way. you really need to work the EQ to get that track to blend with anything...
Jimpster - Don't Push It (SWAG's Just Pull It Mix) ---> Spirit Catcher - Street Hawk (Original Mix)
like this jimpster track...very nice. as for the mix. personal preference here, i thought it was a little abrupt. it's beatmatched and everything is good. i think that quick mix, slam it in is a good technique, but i didn't think it really worked in this situation because the jimpster track is at this high energy point and then just this abrupt change. i would prefer that type of mix at maybe a low point and then slammed in to keep the energy going, but the way you have it sort of interupts the flow. maybe the jimpster track cuts off sharply i dunno, but i just think it could've been mixed a little different or with a different tune to really make it stick. i think that spirit catcher track is great for that mix, but maybe just not the jimpster one. both tracks are great though.
Spirit Catcher - Street Hawk (Original Mix) ---> Ben Burns - The Answer (Silicone Soul Mix)
technically a good mix. i don't really care for the silicone soul remix, but that's just a personal preference again. it sounds like a good track, but i don't really like the bassline sequencing in it...kinda takes away from the song imo. but yeah the mix is a good one.
Ben Burns - The Answer (Silicone Soul Mix) ---> Kenneth Thomas - The Orange Room (Strip Acid)
good mix on this one. energy coming down a bit right here, which i'm sure is intentional with golan globus and hip service coming up. i think a song in place of the silicone soul mix could really help here though because listening to it you do feel a large volume/energy drop off. maybe a track in place of silicone soul mix with a little less energy (yet still grooving if you know what i mean? just not like full blast) would really make it a sweet transition. just seems like this kenneth thomas track is a little less energetic at the beginning of it...so you don't want a huge energy difference in the transition...good track though.
Kenneth Thomas - The Orange Room (Strip Acid) ---> Silver City - Another Dimension (Spirit Catcher Main Mix)
this is my favorite transition by far so far. this is a pro transition and you can feel the difference when you here it...very nice. tracks go good together, EQing is on, just flows very nice...just the way that vocal and new bassline come in...great contrast with the orange room, but it's a good contrast...pleasant to the ear. goes in a new direction, but keeps things grooving...also just a great song hehe
Silver City - Another Dimension (Spirit Catcher Main Mix) ---> Hip Service - Badaboom Badabing (Lys & Gigi S Mix)
good mix, but not as well programmed as the last one. just listen to them...you can here the difference. still a good mix, but just not as solid. the percussion doesn't blend as well and the energy level drops off a bit because like i said above for the orange room, it has less energy in the begining. so i think that is just a track selection thing.
Hip Service - Badaboom Badabing (Lys & Gigi S Mix) ---> Golan Globus - Blazer (Version 2)
another good mix. you did a good job at blending the floating golan globus beginning out of hip service...flowed well. plus i just love blazer...it's such an awesome song hehe
Golan Globus - Blazer (Version 2) ---> Shawn Ward - Expo 86 (Spirit Catcher Mix)
this is another great mix. just how the percussion blends over each other...i mean you probably don't even need to EQ much right? i've really enjoyed these spirit catcher guys tracks too. they are very nice. but yeah that's another solid mix...they layer well and keeps it grooving...and really that's what it's all about.
Shawn Ward - Expo 86 (Spirit Catcher Mix) ---> Rex The Dog - Prototype (Original 12" Mix)
i was glad to see prototype after this track because i want something really just kinda bang out of this. i mean that bassline in the spirit catcher track with the float summery stuff is just asking you to mix out something nasty, so i think that was a good choice. keeps things moving and building for your finish.
Rex The Dog - Prototype (Original 12" Mix) ---> Mountain People - Mountain
i know it might seem a little cliche to finish with a big tune, but i think this tune dropped off a little too much for a closer here. i would've liked something to come out of prototype that was a closer...this just seems a little out of place with the way you were building things. good tune, but would like it earlier on in this set...
overall i enjoyed the set. the beatmatching seemed pretty much on through out maybe a couple stumble/corrections where i said. really what i think made the difference on those two mixes i really enjoyed was the track selections...they just worked especially well together. so i'd just say keep playing with stuff as always and really try to match tracks keeping in mind those two i noted...because really that's how all transitions should be imo. anyway, hope that's helpful...also like i noted a couple of places i would just conciously think about the energy level through out the set...do you want it up...down...and is this an abrupt change? or is this gonna pick up slowly and start grooving along...or bring it down slowly...anyway nice mix.

I absolutely dig this mix! Your first 2 tracks were a bit slow starting but then it takes off straight into space and never looks back. Although it's my first round enjoying this on my crappy speakers at work I can't wait to hear this on a real system. I've always enjoyed your work ESPECIALLY *M O N O* so keep going, I'm lovin it.

PS: You're steadily climbing the charts on my list of top TA DJs, might hit #1 soon if you keep doing what you're doing.
