well, i'd say that tiesto, pvd and fc have much more than it takes to do a GU. [applause] i, for one, wouldn't want them to do one just because, yeah, it would become more mainstream. [booing] don't tell me that i think i'm some kind of an underground person.

to me, the phrase "global underground" means something dark, like the atmosphere of a small private club at 2am. it looks as written on the gu021 cd, "a devilish journey that blazes a trial through deep house, funky progressive, wild percussive grooves, sut-up space-age soul, and never loses its way" [applause]

i wouldn't want tiesto or pvd to do any of the GU simply because the dark "devilish journey" would become a bright crowded party. with gu's i feel like the dj is playing just for me, i am separated from the whole world and there's emptiness around me. i'm not talking about the genre, i'm talking about the associations that come up with the name "global underground". so, let tiesto stick with his amazing magik series, and fc with trance nation.

there is progressive and there is uplifting, and i enjoy them depending on the mood. sometimes, deep progressive gives me more goose bumps then uplifting. [applause, whistling, the crowd goes wild]

p.s. oakey did gu007 and i neither consider that progressive nor uplifting: it's amazing underground.
[steps down and puts gu021 in his cd player]

*applauds*

thats exactly how i feel. that oakenfold one was EXTREMELY good and i don't think it contained a really big "uplifting" killer track either. really dark mood that feels good to listen to. to bring up my point again, we don't need tiesto, ferry and the likes to do a GU. its not like they don't release their own series. if you want to sample their music style just grab a copy of their own releases. even if they did make a GU. i really don't see the difference in listening to Tiesto's Global Underground and a Magik.

Many of you people have raised valid points. I feel like the GU series have become its antithesis. Instead of staying "underground," they bring back poular DJs to mix the same thing. With the exception of Deep Dish, why have GU used the same DJs? Nubreed has picked up where GU has failed. Sander K's GU is better than any Digweed's or Seaman's. As for Tiesto or PvD, why shouldn't they do a GU? Because Tiesto has Magik and PvD rarely does compilation cds.

I think the whole point of this is that if you want a series mixed by Tiesto, Ferry, PVD etc, just wait until they release their own stuff, I've never heard a GU Cd and I don't particularly care much for the DJs who produce that style of music, but that doesn't mean they're not as equally talented as the ones I'd listen to, it's just how it is. Imagine if everybody wanted the same DJ to be playing @ their club at the same time, and if you couldn't get a ticket for it cos of it, if Everyone and their next door neighbours dog owned the same cd compilations... and if every compilation available was done by the same DJ, it'd suck, it'd get boring and it'd give the music a bad name. If I wanna hear a quality ferry corsten production, I get a Trance Nation cd, if i wanna hear Tiesto in his prime I get ISOS and for Armin I'd get his 001/002/003 etc series. but the whole point here is that its pointless of slagging off GU if ur not into that music, and for the ppl not into the Trance Nations or POD series to slag them off, just accept they exist, and don't buy them if you don't like them

Basically, you wont see a guy like Paul Van Dyk do a GU, because hes way too eclectic for the GU sound...GU artist tend to play more of an exotic taste of electronica, that is steered towards the mature audience in electronic music. Guys like Paul Van Dyk are relatively young compared to say Danny Tenaglia. Paul Van Dyk wants to be labeled as electronic music, but a GU CD would not fit this type of person.

I personally think Dave Pearce should do the next GU. Simply because he has that *really* dark style and only place those most rarest of white labels and undergroud tunes that you don't hear ANYWHERE else. So I nominate it now... GU 23 --- Dave Pearce @ Tall Trees/Middleborough!! The sound of the underground!

I don't think the question is whether DJs like PVD and Tiesto have enough TALENT to do a GU -- it just wouldn't fit their style. "Strange World" at 150 Bpm's isnt really the recipe that GU usually dishes up. If GU dabbles in trance, its usually the more techy styles of Nick Warren or Dave Seaman. Tiesto doing a GU would be like Trance Nation 2002 Mixed By John Digweed

it about halfway between boro and darlo (thats middlesbrough and darlington ) its a village which likes to call itself a town. talla trees is this big fuck-off hotel with a big fuck-off club attached. thing is the club has two arenas (well 3 if u include the bit in the middle with bars a cinema screen and food places) and the always use the smallest one with 2 floors just because its got a ready made dj box and secret underground enterence

the other arena is live a huge open plan dancfloor (capable of holding 4000 easy with loads bars and raised gangways at the side, but they use that arena for *choke* pop music

basically if they trashed the gimpy "sunday-best" dress code, attitude ridden ******s/toffs who mainly go there, and get a high quality lineup (which is easily accomplishable the place makes millions of its rich twat guests in the hotel) it would be one hell of a a club, and would easily be betetr than sugarshack (mainly coz tall trees is actually cleaned and not in one of the raggiest areas of north england!)
