Of course, but that's because Americans have a deep and long lasting love for gas guzzling vehicles which take 20+ gallons to fill up and never take the cost of gas into account when they decide to purchase them.

Meanwhile I drive my little subcompact around which never costs more than 15$ to fill up and can take me several hundred miles on a single tank
