The most prominent referee on trial due to the Italian match-fixing scandal has called for Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti to be pulled into the investigation.

Milan, Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina are the four clubs that have been ordered to stand trial after a widespread inquiry following wired tap recordings between senior Italian Football Federation officials and Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi.

However, 26 individuals have also been charged, including referee Massimo De Santis who had to pull out of World Cup duty after becoming involved in the investigation.

Now De Santis has stated that Ancelotti should be investigated as he was manager of Juventus between 1999 and 2001 alongside Moggi.

"We presented a request to the inquiry offices so that they do verifications over Carlo Ancelotti who never knew nothing," said De Santis.

"But he was in Juve's group and he didn't know?"

The Bianconeri are facing possible demotion if convicted in the trial that is scheduled to begin on June 29, and De Santis, who is alleged to have helped Moggi influence referees, hopes justice will be done in the biggest scandal to rock Italian football for a quarter of a century.

"I await justice, if I committed any offences I did so on the field of play," De Santis added.

"I hope that who has to judge me will see the matches to watch what I did on the pitch."

Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio are all being investigated on the count of violating Articles One and/or Six of the Sports Justice Code.

Milan are indirectly involved and are only being investigated under suspicion of violating Article One of the code.

Article One is a general rule which explains that `whoever is subject to the observation of the federation's rules must do so according to the principles of fairness, correctness and honesty'.

Article Six explains that `the execution, through any means, of acts aimed at altering the course or result of a match, or at ensuring an advantage to anybody in the league table is a punishable offence'.

If any of the clubs are found guilty of violating Article Six, they face the minimum penalty of automatic relegation to an inferior level.

An infringement of Article One is punishable by the docking of points in the subsequent season

looks like Ac milan will indeed be safe in Serie A. We can say goodbye to the other 3.

Inter owner Massimo Moratti is threatening to sensationally take his team abroad if any clubs found guilty of sporting fraud are not suitably punished.

The Calciopoli sporting trial starts on June 29 in which Juventus, Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina – plus 26 people – face a fight to clear their names.

And Moratti has maintained that he would consider transferring the Italian giants into a foreign championship if he’s not satisfied with the cleanliness of calcio.

“If you can’t play honest football here then perhaps there is the possibility of a League abroad wiling to house a great club,” he said. “I want to study that possibility.”

Moratti had previously been reserved in his thoughts with regard to the various scandals, but he’s clearly distraught and angered by the recent revelations.

“I feel conned,” stated the oil baron. “I keep thinking about all of the sacrifices that we made and what has come out has demonstrated that things are far worse than what we imagined.”

Inter have consistently failed to lift the Scudetto in recent years, often falling short of Italian giants Juventus and Milan.

“We are not intervening in the trial,” added Moratti. “We have always respected the rules and will see what happens now.”

The clubs involved do face heavy punishments if found guilty of any wrongdoing such as demotion to a lower Division. There is also the possibility that Juve could be stripped of their last two titles.

“I wouldn’t miss the presence of Milan and Juventus ,” noted the Nerazzurri chief. “As for the Scudetto, that can be handed out to Chievo, Inter or Roma.

“If the sides who finished ahead didn’t comport themselves in the right manner then it is only right that the first ‘clean’ club should be considered as coming first.”

Moratti is also hoping that leniency isn’t shown to those who have gone down the wrong path in recent years.

“People would be a little troubled if any sentences were not in line with the seriousness of what may have happened,” he added.

“This is the time where football must give the right example otherwise there would be a risk that it would no longer be considered as a serious sport.”

GRANDE MORATTI!!!

not so fast milanista. The article I put forth earlier with the possible suspensions is false. There are new allegations against the club. Just expect the teams that have been indited to have a huge fall out from this. Milanistas here in Milan feel that the club is guilty of something and they know this since they have not been active in the transfer market and many of their stars are quiet and being linked to other clubs. Basically true Milanistas here have a calm exterior but are freaking out in their minds basically me before they announced the other 3 that joined Juve in the guilty box
