the problem is that i have been experimenting with a new beat, a new feel.

and it can sound a bit odd against other music, and i am trying to get a mix in which blends more naturally with mix outs or when dj's decide to cut the previous track early.

currently whats happening is like 'traffic' by tiesto being blended into Handels Messiah.

i would like to do things quite differently but i would also like it to be played if possible if its good enough,

The only way we MIGHT be able to help you is if you post a sample of what it sounds like now. Doesn't matter if it's totally unfinished, or whatever...just post it. Then we can say "yeah, you probably should change this if you want it to get played" or "no, it'll be fine".

i think no matter how much you explain it, we cant really help you. the quality of the track (like sound quality, eq, compression, good drum samples, shit like that) is what gets your song played, not knit picking the structure of it, because you can have a great structure, but it can be technically poor. so how about posting a sample of it, btw how long have you been producing?

what i am worried about, i have realised is when do djs fade into my track

i have (in my opinion) something quite african percussive type as early as bar 9 after the opening 8 bars are kick and hihhats.

i am worried that this section will be glanced over and it is important to my structure. to generate the feel of the whole piece.
(my opinion of course)

i am wondering if i make the first 8 bars longer to 16 so there is more chance of the dj fading into my track by the time the african-like percussion starts.

that will put everything back by 8 bars, but it seems from what djs are saying i shouldnt worry about this.

i guess i am trying to find out when djs fade into the 2nd track which might be the stupidest question on this forum ever.

but hey, someones got to ask that one.. hey hey

my track-latest structure
bar 1-8 kick drum and hi hhats

bar 8-24 a new percussive section (african style drumming)

bar 25-32 another percussion section (still no bass instrument )

bar 33 - 65 a melodic motif taken from the main melody with heaps of percussive stuff underneath and no bass line - plenty of tribal percussion though

As a lot of people are saying...you can do whatever you want.

When you say bars, do you mean measures? As in, 8 bars is 32 beats?

If so, 32 beats is pleeeennnnty of time. The mix probably won't be over by then, but your track should definitely be prominent enough that whatever you do will be heard.

Again though, as we've been saying, you should post a sample of what you've got if you really want this in-depth advice.

Quoted for emphasis.

Guys try not to humor this fella and refrain from posting until he posts some samples.

Save your mixdown into an mp3 or wma or other compressed file. Then go to www.yousendit.com and follow the instructions to upload a file. After it uploads it it will give you a link. Copy that link, and post it here.
