Go with ProgPsy... it is the only thing I can think of that is somewhat similer to the older sounds. Or maybe Marco V, J00f or Christopher Lawrence...

Eh, '99 trance is still going on, probably at just as steady a pace as ever. Only difference between then and now is the production's been beefed up as trance producers have gotten their hands on better studio equipment. But the template is still the same. Same structure, same keys, same effectiveness*. Trouble is so much of it sounds the fucking same from track to track.

*I say effectivness with regards to if you are (for the most part) new to the music. Of course, as you move on, your expectations for new music to continuously surprise becomes greater in order to capture that same thrill you had when you first heard something new. Many popular trance producers, though, don't seem to be interested in doing this, quite content to keep going with what worked in '99 since there's still plenty of new kids on the block to sway to their sound.

not true. current trance is very different. Trance nowadays is a lot more boring and repetitive & uninspired sounding. It used to be a lot more variety and more fun/interesting. It had a lot more of a sould back then and I much prefer to listen to/play trance from pre-2003 than most of what comes out since then.

to be clear, real trance really never existed, it was all an illusion perpetuated by pimps.

Well......,I think you should start listing to Armin van Buuren's A.S.O.T. episodes.

The latest episode, 255 had again some amazing new tunes.
Some I really liked:

Black Pearl - Bounty Island (DJ Shah's san Antonio Harbour mix)(Armada)
Nu NRG - Kosmosy (Monster Tunes)
Cape Town - Proglifter (Banshee)

If those aren't trance, then I don't know what is trance any more. Or, maybe better, you don't....
