Tiesto - Magik Journey yeah he opened with this yesterday it was amazing!!! i didnt get the big fuss over it before but its a great opening track (aussie forums)

other classics for me are from memorable sets are anything by tastexperience, auraunaut - people want to be needed (ie. magik 7 ), Conductor and the Cowboy - Feeling this way (Solar stone dub) (paul van dyk home london) and some others :P ferry corsten opens nicely ie. trance energy 2000 Impact - Inspiration (Behind The Mirror EP) and old oakey! nalin and kane - open your eyes

DJ Johan Gielen - Live @ Trance Energy 2002

Human Evolution - Human Evolution

Good god, I crapped my pants when this dropped. Such an awesome emotional tune. This is how you kick off a set: with an inspirational, uplifting trancer.

How about The Joker - Milky Way 2001 (Original Club Mix) ??? I like it to start of a set...sweet intro...gradual build up...and nice tempo to start things off. I even like Andora - Mental Atmosphere (Bonus Mix)....nice and mellow to start.

Oh yeah!! I once opened with "York - Farewell To the Moon (Vinyl Club Mix)" ....and everyone loved it. It set such an amazing mood to the entire set

Sasha & Digweed loved dropping Jimmy Van M@ Sanctuary - Sanctuary as an opening track at Twilo. Has a great vibe.

Completely agreed... when went to see them in chicago, they also opened up with this track, it totally set the mood.
I think an opener definitley has to be a progressive/dark tune, with almost no melody.
