I think they're going down the ultimate universe road for Spider-Man 3, where Parker and Brock are childhood friends and are both puny, but Peter gets built from his mutation and Brock gets big when he's Venom. The symbiote suit in the ultimate universe is actually man made by Peter and Eddie's fathers and is stolen by Eddie.
