Thanks to google, I now know what dragonlance is
I also now know, you're not worthy of being called a 'nerd' because nerds actually know useful things, you're just a dork who likes dumb fantasy fiction! |
oh please, i know lots of useful things! mostly nerdy useful things, but useful all the same.
to the rest of you haters, i can merely surmise that none of you are particularly bright. first off its silly to compare DL to the martin books, theyre pretty much a different genre. DL is pulp fantasy for adolescents, heroes V villians and should be judged as such. yes, they are cliched in the sense that its "pulp fantasy", but then again i havent read any other fantasy books that don't involve the same tired cliches, until the daughter of the empire series (feist) and the martin books. indeed, fantasy is pretty much one big cliche (though not as bad as scifi).
as the "group of heroes set off to save the world" archetype, it stands above any other fantasy excluding LOTR.
and, as for "poorly written" - what a load of crap. the first harry potter book is an example of poor writing.
oh, and what is very important to note, my DL defending begins and stops with the chronicles and legends. any of the spinoffs not written by weis and hickman are truly terrible. the original books however were the birth of mainstream fantasy.
