someone mentioned Interpol, they are pretty good for coming out now.

Nickelback i dislike as well, but even back in the 80s there was music that just sucked like that as well. look at all those bad 80s rock bands....

Shamez made an interesting point about different time frames. i mean look at the 50s and 60s music. do you still hear stuff like that? no, it has evolved into what it is now. i have read alot that EDM artists have been influenced by a lot of 80s music. i am curious as to how music will sound in the future with their main influence being EDM. hope that makes some sense.

this topic reminds me of that part in trainspotting where Diane is telling renton that the world is changing, music is changing, even drugs are changing.

totally agree.

not just the horrible hair bands of the 80s but how bout the shitty synth cheese newave bands that was comin out left and right ? im sure many music lovers wanted to put a gun to their heads just like how john [fr0st] is frustrated.

i admit, lots of EDM isnt what it used to be.. so much has been tried & tested already but instead of talkin about how wack certain thing is, i feel one should focus on searching for the good stuff and using there time doing so, and BELIEVE me, there are still TONS of good music out there. you just need to dig a little harder and deeper.

i goto the record store, just pick out like 100 records and just listen to them.. and i'll pick out whatever i liked from it. sometimes it can be 10 sometimes 5 sometimes 1. the important thing is that you took your time to look for music and if you do it enough, you will defintely find something that will satisfy you.

i just dont like to get stuck in negativity cuz we can do that all day. instead, lets look for ways to escape/change that.

Off topic question, sorta...

I used to listen to a lot of hardcore, punk, etc.. growing up in the 80's, and stopped doing so once I discovered EDM in '91. Ever since then, my knowledge of music that uses 'real instruments' has been in decline, with the worst happening in the past 6 yrs after I moved to Toronto. With no 9:30 Club equivilent here, I've barely seen any live concerts (compared to weekly shows b4 moving here). I'm completely out of touch with genres and bands. Last year I picked up an album by Billy Talent, and I absolutely LOVE them! Are they considered 'emo' or just nouveau-punk? (I never really understood what qualified as emo).

(someone educate this old woman)

Also from my intrusive post search of you, because i have no clue who you are and was curious. I see you tend to go to the big brand name techno(err i mean trance, progelectropsybreaks what ever the catchy genre term is for it nowadays) events. Do you go to any of the more "underground" acts? It would seem the same superficial reasons that lead you to those 90's bands prolly lead you to electronic music. Or maybe it is drugs(last few trance events I have been to, i actually believe the only way you could enjoy them is with a few hits of e). Or it could be even the ladies for all i know. Because if its in search of new innovative music PVD isnt it, markus isnt it, and AVB us deffinately not fucking it.

Yeah im not trying to come off a prick its the 90's angst and all.

I also totaly agree on the record exutive comment. But if those types of records didn't sell they wouldn't lead million dollar add campaigns with billboards, magazines, radio plays etc. They practicly force people to like that shit. I mean i havent listened to a radio in about 2 years and even i know some of the most recent pop songs. They force feed us shit and we buy it. If consumers were smarter this wouldnt happen. And dont get me started on MP3's(yeah im guity of them too) but they fucking destroyed the independant market for all genres.

This even goes further than just marketing. it goes into the production.

Nickleback(fucking douchebags if there ever were ones, they deffinately are going to hell for a dollar and fame)

http://www.thewebshite.net/nickelback.htm

Listen to this in stero. Drums perfectly sync up, chord changes at same time drum fills almost identical. And i dont know of any drummers that keep tempo perfectly constant through the whole song(computer edited and synced anyone?).

And the loss of dynamics in modern music. This again we have to thank the record labels. They want the shit to be the loudest song on the radio. Why you ask? So its heard, so it becomes familiar, so you can sing the fucking chorus while your driving down the road in your car with the windows down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war

Fuck record companies, fuck musicans who give into demands of record campanies and sell all artistic integrity they have, and lastly fuck you consumers who bought the most recent 50cent, little john, nickleback(fuck them the most), britany spears(I admit though toxic was cool, though prolly force fed to me) yeah fuck all you billboard scum sucking consumers. In the end we ultimately fuck ourselves. Wether it be our music, our planet, our culture. The only ones we can blame are ourselves for never doing anything about it.

I see you got alot of time on your hands
