I don't really see the big deal. There, a dogs life is significantly less valued than here. How were they supposed to kill them, lethal injections all around? Too expensive, and too time consuming.
If they had a problem with Rabies, and they needed to eliminate the population, they made the right choice. Sure - it would have been sad, but thats their decision as a population, and I don't see why its that big of a deal. I'd rather have a pile of dead dogs, as opposed to having rabies.

However, there is also a chance that you will be re-directed to a horrid vision that will claw away what remains of your dwindling childhood innocence. Are you willing to take that risk? I thought so... I thought so.

True. I suppose your right. We need to chanage our way of thinking when looking at this situation, and think that they're viewing dogs much like we'd view rats. (as a possible comparison)
Genreally no one over here would get upset if we killed a crap load of rats... yet many view rats as pets too. I had two, Nosey and Nipper when I was a younger.

you're exactly right...the chinese have different classes and animals are at the bottom of those classes. There are TONS of stray dogs wandering around Taipei and I was always curious as to why they don't get aggressive with humans and bother them for food and my friend told me people just beat dogs here. No reason at all they grab an object and hit them. So yes, you could say that view them the same as our society views rats.
It's been going on for years and it's pretty sad it takes an event of this magnitude in order to get people's attention.

Question though: Would treating dogs as such be any worse than treating rats as such over here?
(though thats not exactly the case, I know, since we dont go around randomly stepping on rats heads for no reason or throwing bricks at them or tossing them against vehicles (referring to that first picture in this thread)
I dont agree its right to hurt any animals as such. Only point is, to use my previous analogy of dogs to them = rats to us, that we should only be as outraged at this behaviour as we would if this had involved rats instead. |
I agree with you...the point I'm trying to make is they have been beating dogs and cats for years there. Hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats (including stolen pets) are inhumanely killed for fur trade in China but one never sees that getting a substantial amount of media attention....
