are they stereo 1/8" cables or mono (on the connector youll see 1 band for mono, and two bands for stereo

this is what the stereo plug looks like



this is how you connect it to your computer



then to record click start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control

in volume control click options menu, then properties

then select recording then click ok

check the box for whatever input you plugged the cable in, line in or mic in

once this is done, you can use sound recorder (programs / accessories / entertainment / sound recorder) or a program like gold wave to record the input.
