Cutting out bass, treble, vocals etc. They don't work that well but they do help when a track might have a lot of bass and it sounds clangy and you want to gradually bring it in...kind of like you can do with EQs. They are found like Trogador said, on lower-end mixers with poorer EQs. I have the Vestax PCV 275s, and they have things called "isolators" which are pretty much the same thing as kill switches, but maybe a little better made. But I personally and am planning to upgrade to a better mixer soon, like an Ecler Nuo 3 or Nuo 4.
