Re: TO STAR: Stores may have to crank it down (*warning* annoying news ahead!!)

To ensure compliance, the plan — which was approved yesterday by the planning and transportation committee — calls for the hiring of four full-time enforcement officers. The budget for the officers, plus administrative costs, is estimated at $340,000 next year.

Sure, let's waste $340,000 on useless people to go around telling
everyone to turn down the music when it's probobly barely even
audible, instead of putting it towards something a little more
useful to the city. Oh I dunno, the homeless for example? How
f*cked are these guys?! I agree with what others have said,
they spend WAY too much time thinking of things the city cannot do,
instead of concentrating on what they CAN do to help generate a
higher level of tourism which then creates a higher level of income!

"If officers are out there and hear it, they can deal with it," Weinstock said. "If you're standing on the street and you hear it, that's all you need."
The city defines loudspeaker or amplified sound to include sounds from CD players, stereos, radios and even people making announcements. |
Notice how they don't define in db (decibels) just HOW loud,
loud is suppose to be at? Give the public a numeric equation to
work with. I know that might be the city endorsing the companies
that make sound level meter's, and oh my god they don't wanna do
that! (sarchasm)...I mean why not use that free publicity to promote
the fact they are going to waste ALOT of money on something so
useless!

The biggest whiners can be found right here on Trance Addict.
However now that the smoking law has been rammed down everyone's throat they have moved on to noise. Well all those here complaining about others complaining about so called "noise pollution" had better check themselves. If you supported the outright smoking ban, then complaining about noise complainers makes you a hypocrite.
Remember how i said that the smoking laws would set precedents and that something you love might be the next target?
Just because you dont like smoking doesnt mean others shouldnt do it. Just because other people dont like city noise doesnt mean you shouldnt make it.
And as for the "health" debate that im sure is going to spark up. Many of these people point to so called "studies" that say that noise pollution is harmful to your health much the same way that people defend draconian smoking laws with studies.
"If you dont defend others, who will be left to defend you?"
I rest my case

PS: Ive given up on this city and ive already started making long term plans to get out of here (within a couple of years)
The more i travel the more i realize how lost this place really is. I hate to be negative but stuff like this just reinforces my feelings. Too bad because Toronto could potentially be a wonderful place like it used to be.
