Is the headphone option viable? THat's the reason i got Senn280's over my 10$ Phillips cups.

In my opinion it's always a good idea to do some of your mixing on headphones (however remember to keep the volume low). However, you can't do the final bit of tweaking based on headphones - especially the kick/bass eq'ing needs to be done on good monitors.

For mastering purposes as well, I wouldn't recommend headphones.

But it's certainly not a bad idea to switch a little bit back and forth between monitors and headphones (as long as it's good headphones).

Question. Is it bad to have my mackie 824's right next to my TI like that. The amp is seriously like 2 inches away from it. And my TI gets pretty fussy from time to time, but whos doesn't?

That's actually a very good idea. It's good to switch often between any sets of speakers/monitors/headphones often, rather than saving that until the mastering phase (and some people don't even do it on the mastering phase).

Unless you've got several years of experience under your belt, you need to listen to your tracks in different sound environments and on different equipment. Obviously don't take this to extremes like switching every 5 minutes, but every hour or so would be a good idea. It also sorta forces you to take a break, since people generally listen louder with headphones, so you need to catch some quiet time before being able to adjust back to the monitors/loudspeakers.

Here's something I don't understand. Why use speakers that add color to songs? It makes no sense to me. Wouldn't you rather hear the song the way the artist intended it to be?

here's an answer: hardly anyone cares about that. Just as long as it is able to make sounds.... Sometimes they like it to go loud too.

I'm not sure it really matters. I mostly find that shit subjective, so long as you can hear everything. 'Colour' is really subjective. The most important thing is that you understand how the speaker behaves and when you are pushing it too far.

Loads of people made great tunes on NS10s and anyone who has used them will you - they ain't good monitors.

I was starting to get ok mixing on a pair of 3 watt PC speakers with no bass at all. I had to change alot of working habits though because of it. For instance, I had to start with low cut samples and A/B between my mp3 player and a home stereo, then gradually boost the bass region until it sounded balanced between all three.

Took ages though.
