Well that would be a very different situation than the one painted by OurManFlint. |
But before all of this, I said(amongst other things)...
| quote: | | Originally posted by OurManFlint Americans have the money to eat really healthy foods in abundance, yet are becoming increasingly obese. |
I don't see how the situation I painted would be different, other than the fact that the two mentioned demographics are able enough to buy the healthiest food, yet choose not to. They are not forced, they choose not to.
Your claim that Europeans subjected to the same envoirments (that being the availibility of fast-food chains) will react the same way, which would explain the rise in obesity rates. You say that because of this same reaction, America shouldn't be blamed for its obesity rates, because now we can see that two developed demographics react the same way to said enviorments.
The problem with this, and my argument, is that the producer of this enviorment (the availability of fast-food joints) is America. Your argument would only work if fast food-joints were produced elsewhere, and America was the first nation to be subjected to this enviorment.
It is the first nation, and the producer of these eating options. Through the spread of global capitalism, these American companies started opening chains in other parts of the world, subjecting them to this food.
The demand is high. Why? Because it's cheap and fast. Not healthy. Therefore, the demand would be somewhat high, as it has been proven to exist. So, the American produced fast-food chains have opened up in other parts of the world, and after a while, obesity rates have risen in those parts of the world.
American obesity rates have been high in the past few decades, but so has the money raked in by the fast-food corps. So have the obesity rates of the other countries where such fast-food joints are present.
Globalism has had a certain impact on the style of working that is done throughout the world. The American work regime consist of long hours. Thus, after three or four decades of this work regime, plus the availability of quick and cheap food, the American population has increasing obesity. Nations outside of America subjected to these same enviorments are sharing these same attributes. Could it be a product of America. Logically, yes. The fact that it is grounded in America makes it America's fault.
Hehe, I need to change my sig. WC has been over for a while now
