yea to the first, nay to the second... not aware of any standard PC boards being made yet that hold more than 4GB

ran xp 64-bit awhile back, watched wow64 emu layer chug at running a lot of standard stuff... wanna re-evaluate that now

I concur.
For me, it's running as smoothly as XP did.

I am assuming you guys are using the 32 bit version.......Right? Theres NO WAY all your apps will be running if you had installed the 64 bit version. Ive seen it first hand, its a night mare.

If that is the case, that you are running the 32 bit, of course it will run without the major headaches. The whole POINT of Vista, is 64 bit, and if your not up to speed with knowing how to get your PC and other apps, and hadware to work with it, i suggest to others to install the 32 bit if you want a preveiw of vista. But its still 32 bit, so whats the point?

XP's latest maintenence packages are fool proof and work mint. Not worth the upgrade in my opinion unless you want 64 bit. Even with that being said, Id expect a MAJOR performance difference, which Im NOT seeing in the reveiws right now.

Fact is, most hardware, and software out there are still 32 bit, and for the hard core that want the 64 bit performance, its just not going to happen untill:

1- all the bugs are worked out
2- software companys make their products 64 bit
3- hardware manufactures make 64 bit componants or drivers for the ones that are compatible with 64 bit
4- PC manufactures start putting 2 gig of ram and a 2.8 or higher dual core processor in everything they sell that will run vista or dissapoinment is an understatement for what you will feel from the performance.

Im still gonna try it, but like I said, Im gonna make sure its on a second hdd, just for fucking around on. Im not gonna bother with the 32 bit, my 32 bit xp works just fine

Yup, I am running it on 32Bit.

I still have to put it through its paces in a few areas, but aesthetically and functionality wise, I'm impressed.

I'm giving it its first drunk test right now. whooo

I know when I install the 64 bit, Reason, Cubase, Albeton, and all the other apps I love so much plus more are gonna be gone. But Its all for the sake of testing purposes I send MS beta notifications all the time about IE7, media player 11, office 2007.......cant wait for the essays Im going to type about vista 64

Fuck, I dont even know if my 500 dollar sound card is gonna work :@

Meh, like I said, its just to play with, and if I can get it to work half decent, that would be a big accomplishment on my part.

Cheers, hahaha

Frankly, I didn't really have a choice.. There was a Hard Drive error a few weeks back and I lost alot of that music, sample kits, VSTs, some important photographs.. Basically I was a dumbass for not properly backing up. So one 250 Gig external HD later, everything is now backed up (from what I could recover that is) and I figured I might as well give it a whirl. I have my Windows XP Disc at the ready if things really go to hell.. Just in case.

EDIT: One minor pain in my arse is that I can't seem to find a driver for the ALPS Touchpad. My Notebook's touchpad *works*, but the vertical scrollbar however, doesn't ATM. Small gripe as I rarely EVER use it. Meh.

I'll be setting up a test lab for Vista at work within the next few months. I gotta get a working RIS image that I can push out into production, but judging by most initial reactions, it looks like it will be fun to develop that
