I was afraid someone would misunderstand that. It's in fact quite the opposite. I don't consider myself better than anyone else. What I mean by that is that other people perceive it this way, and that it often causes resentment and frustration. From an early age I'd been going to special schools for 'gifted' kids, then onto special high school programs, had grades usually ranging between 95-100%, learned everything super fast, learned english in a few weeks... This kind of stuff is always associated with a positive connotation. When describing it, people would say that I'm "better" at learning, or "more intelligent", but those things are all highly relative. Intelligence is pretty much a meaningless word in this context. At most, it's a measure of normality. In other words, you could say that I processed school differently than most people, but using a word like "better" would be highly subjective. Efficiency or rapidity isn't always a good thing.
While they were all praising my "abilities", I was wishing more than anything else that I could just be like everyone else. I don't want to go through my whole life story here (and I doubt any of you would be interested in reading it), but let's just say that almost nothing but negative has come out of it. Unless you'd lived in my shoes, you'd never understand all the shit that it's made me go through.
