So when is it EVER done for the good of the public? Anytime the government does ANYTHING you shout about freedom, cashgrab, or hidden agendas.

Where does it say that the government is hiring extra people to look after this issue? It seems like any other traffic blitz to me; ask your working force to concentrate on, and enforce certain infractions for a specific period of time to raise public awareness. They do it for long weekends as well, are those cashgrabs too, or are people actually driving poorly and causing an increased chance of an accident during those periods?

Also, it seems as the law was in place before this week, which means that the 'cashgrab' has been around for longer than you care to give it attention. You worry now, because they are actually trying to make people aware of the problem and law?

You make the police force sound like an off/on switch. They are only able to concentrate on one action at a time. Kill bad guys or look for idling cars. Humans including cops/bylaw officers are able to multi-task. No bad guys around, enforce some other laws.

ill have to find the source but i believe they hired 12 or 14 new bylaw officers specifically to enforce this bylaw when it was passed last year.

And not everything is just a cash grab. But these days they seem to be going through everything with a fine tooth comb to find new ways to generate revenue.

My dad was telling me last week that he had been speaking to a cop friend he has. The cop said that they dont choose when and where radar traps are set anymore like they used to. It's all based on what politicians want. The same politicians who decide the speed limits! Go figure!

Fine, let the city make money, teach somebody a lesson, and clean our air.

Sounds like a lose, lose situation to me.

as you know I work at a retirement home - most are not with it all the time here and once In band camp, j/k this one time this daughter of an old resident left her car on in the parking lot running for 7 hours! I saw it at 7pm, thought they were coming back and when I went for a ciggie break at 10ish the freakin car was still running, I was surprised it was ok, but about 50 dollars worth of gas totally wasted.

I think it is pretty thick to leave your car running, while parked, whether the driver is in the car or not they should get a fine!!! They do give out fines if you are idiling for so long, this will just make people realize!

BUT cops are the worst they always leave their fukkin cars on you would think that the cops would actually want to set an "example" but no! they don't . . . .

True, so many ppl when posting always over look this. If cops are busting someone for smoking a J or for not wearing a helmet, its like "Fuck! They have better things to do"...

Well, its not like they just sat on the street watching in particular for a guy w/ a joint lit to walk by, or for a person on a bike to ride by who's not wearing a helmet!

They were just there at the time to notice said infraction and then acted accordingly, as they should have. Its their job to stop such unlawful behaviour, which they noticed (no matter how trivial we find it at the time).

But they hired officers to specifically enforce this bylaw. Just like they are hiring new officers to go after wayward radios on patios. (which again is nothing more than a money/old lady vote grab)

my battle is one and the same. Its against over-regulation of our everyday lives.

Everything ive ever argued in these types of threads has been about that.
