Bottom line is that the city used the clubs and their owners to help build up a part of this city that was going nowhere fast. Now that the city has improved the area and also cashed in by generating revenues from taxes, etc that were levied on the clubs, they are about to sell out to the highest bidders - the condos.
The fact of the matter is a lot of those condo units will be purchased by out of towners, tourists, etc for their winter/vacation homes. Meanwhile people from Miami who put money into the clubs, who work in and rely on income from the clubs, and who party in the clubs (outsiders included) will all get fucked because the condos paid off the right politicians so that tourists from Europe, sports and other stars/celebs looking for a vacation condo can have their way. Studies have already shown that they are building more condo units than we have people down here. Supply is gretaer than demand. So it's clear it's being done to cater to tourists, and they cannot have a bunch of clubbers running around now can they. They have no basis to complain because they knew the clubs were there when they started building the condos right there. Will they die if on Fridays and Saturdays we have afterhours??? If so, don't buy a condo here.
This is corruption at its peak. You think they told any of the club owners that they would be fucked in a couple of years when they took their money??? Give me a break, I bet they guaranteed the opposite. When you watch the news and hear that millions of dollars are missing from different county and city programs here in Dade county you think nothing of it. Guess what, those same people are the ones that would sell their mothers to the condos C.O.D., and are now doing it. For example there was a low income home fund scandal where over $100 million that was supposed to go to low income housing resulted in little if anything being built, and when they went to the county/city and mayors they had no answers at all. If they will fuck the poor, imagine what they will do to club owners and club-goers. No vaseline included.
The only options we have are to enjoy the 24-hour district while we have it, and let these politicians know how we feel. They will have to hold hearings before they do anything with the district, and voting against any commissioners, mayors, etc that want to or vote to get rid of the district is a simple way to get back at them.
On a side note, it would be fun to see LP go to war with the condo owners. I see construction delays in their future.
