I would make a little more on wednesdays if i had my own speakers/amps, but i use another dj's (the big dog in town). he makes 250 a night during week days and 800 a night on weekends. i work for a cheep ass on fridays and saturdays and he has a sound system in his bar that i just plug my tt's into. anyway, i was planning on getting my own speakers/amps eventually and going around to the bars to see if i could get two more nights a week so i'll have 5 nights every week. i was wondering how much to ask for (flat fee, % of the door, etc..).

how much do you guys make when you dj (4 hour set)and please let me know the city you're from (the cost of living here is very low so im sure id make more in a big city). i'm from altoona, pa

thanks
bisco

Not really anyones business if I get paid or not. I'll pass your details on to the tax man though!

There's a lot of factors involved like Location, Style, DJ Following, venue, etc.

For me, a typical set would run anywhere from $100 (small venue) to $350 (large venue). If you provide your own equipment, you should be able to charge more. Easily $100 more. But then again, keep in mind the city you're at.

yep, right in there with woody. I don't believe I've ever made more than $350 in one night.

But I'll play for nothing if the cause/party is right. I just want to get the music out there and push DJing. I love it. It is a disease I think.

+1

a number of factors come into play when looking at pay

location (local, continental, international)
venue and size of gig
promoter
tour (can they book you for multiple nights in neighboring citites)
travel costs

each gig should be handled on a case by case basis

some promoters just can't afford to pay you, they'll usually hook you up with free drinks, in which case you're probably playing to a half full basement club anyway

start with a base fee (but be flexable) and add on charges from there (like if you have to travel, bring your own gear, etc.)

and contracts, especially if you have to travel

don't get burned because you were too dumb to cover your own ass

whoah, asia is the place to be i think

in jakarta a middle-of-the-road local DJ gets at least USD300 for a 2-3 hour set. more renowned locals more like USD500-700, the really decent locals USD1,000 and upward. foreign residents (none of whom are well-known anywhere but here) especially westerners take home an extremely good packet every month.

clubs here are run by bi---g backers and have plenty of money to splash out on. the current local crop of DJs are mostly comparable to locals in western countries..

i don't gig yet, hoping to start in a month or 2
