i'm surprised you said you adjusted well from going from 38" to 23" thats a big cut in space. why didn't you keep your 19" monitors for a 3 monitor setup? with cubase you can never have enough monitors

my personal preference as of now would be to go with dual 19" screens. i think this would be the most effecient for my needs. If i want to watch movies i can get a big screen tv. but for music, multi monitors all the way (as mentioned, each monitor per task)

You would need to have 2560x1600 widescreen resolution (or 2048x1536 4:3) to have more working space than dual 1280x1024 monitors.

If I had the money to spend, I wouldn't think twice about getting one of those 30" Dell 2560x1600 monitors though.. But for that kind of amount of hard earned cash, there's so many other things to buy.

hmm how do you dedicate plugins and mixer to one window and arrangement in the other?

I am suprized I adjusted, and it was relatevely painless hehe. But I do miss a duall setup sometimes.. My wife is bugging me lately, she wants my 24 inch dell (lol that sounds dirty).... anyways, she has one of the 19 inch wide screens, and she said she will buy another one (same kind) for me if i give her the 24 inch dell. Well I am thinking about it, casue it's 2x19 for the 24 inch dell. It's an interesting offer, I have to think about it... plus the dell stays home, so it's not like i am selling it...

why not just get a sweet ass hi res tv and then connect your computer to that?

my friend does that for his gaming...pretty sure i'd rather do that than spend money on each seperately..

Well, you could combine everything of course... Music is not my way of income - even though I'm strongly dedicated to it.

My GPU is no problem, it has dual DVI output.

It does require a bit of thinking how you'd rearrange from 2 screens to just only one screen... With two screens, you can really 'fix' what you need on one screen and what you'll need on the other. Everytime I open FL Studio, it just remembers the position and I can start right away.

I'm not sure it will work the same way on a single 30" screen? Say, I would position the main screen and mixer myself so that they fill up half the screen. If you re-open the program, will it also easily remember? It seems logic, though I'd like to know

Well, it's not like they're glued to one screen, I can still move them around. But I just arrange the windows in Cubase so that I have the transport bar, arrange window, key editors etc. on left monitor and everything else (mixers, plugins, channel strips..) on the right one. I have all my templates saved like that.

The only thing that would make me change from dual to a wide-monitor, is if i felt that i wanted to see a wider range of the mixer, and thats what i want. However i think you should keep one of the 4:3 monitors, and still have both. Why. well the you still can hav the small screen to have plugins etc etc, and still have the wide range onm the squencer. In this way you can keep the best from both.!

Cheers
C

Can't you have dual widescreen?

I have the Dell 2405FPW and it's set to 1920x1200 pixels, and personally I always find that there's enough real estate. Although I've got my old 18" LCD sitting around doing nothing, and if I had more desk space I'd probably hook that up too just for the hell of it.

I think that for production, one 1920x1200 monitor is better than two 1280x1024 monitors. If you're going to go one size up, like a 20" or 21" inch monitor that supports 1600x1200, then two of those are probably better than one large widescreen.

Well, if you think resolution-wise and not really size-wise seeing at the amount of inches it might be best to just look at the type of display, no?

On Wikipedia I found this page giving some explanations on these types, was quite helpful!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QXGA

These QXGA's can provide you with more space on a smaller screen... I don't know how 'useful' this might be in the end though?

For the real hungry, there's also a pic of a dual 30" WQXGA setup (Apple):

It's not *just* the resolution though - I can comfortably read text on a 24" flatscreen at 1920x1200, but on a 19" CRT, it's barely legible at 1600x1200.

Those Apple 30-inchers are nice I'm sure, a little out of my price range though and probably yours too.

Frankly I despise the alphabet soup of XGA, UXGA, WUXGA, WQXGA, and OMGWTFBBQXGA, because they tell you nothing, basically. I'd rather just know the native and maximum resolutions.
