The beginnings of a police state IMO if the US is not careful. The only reason they are allowed to excersise what they are doing is because we are at a "state of war," but are we really? Or are they hiding behind the term for their own advantage? I think the latter is reality. I mean, is their an end to this War on terror, and if not, does this give them the right to excersise the powers given to them in a state of war for as long as they see a threat (which might be a very long time)?

Honestly, the terrorists don't give a SCHEISSE how free we are. They aren't fighting us because we are free. They just want us dead.

I wasn't stating my attitude though. If you think long and hard, this democracy as we know it will cease to exist if we have another 9/11. People will demand security, and that will mean the end to open-ended freedom. Will we become an authoritarian state, maybe so. I'm not saying we'll become totalitarian as a result, but we definately won't be so free.

According to Cheney, it's a 100 year "war" not likely to end in our lifetime. So if things continue to go the way they are rightnow, yeah, we'll have a police state in every sense of the term.
