I'm not saying you should quit, as I'm all for "whatever makes you feel better," but if you eat even a remotely balanced diet you get more than enough of your required vitamins and minerals. Probably 99.9% of what you ingest via multivitamins is excreted via urine, feces or sweat. Now, if you have some sort of pathological condition or are anemic, forget what I just said.

As far as pharmaceutical vs. independent scientists, they're both after the same thing; money. The way independent science works in this country, at least for the last 50 years, is that the louder you are and the more "relevant" your research seems, the more you get. Pharmaceuticals are a little different, but not much; the more relevant your drug seems, the more money you get.

The analogy I would use is global warming (I'm not using this as a yes/no of global warming, only as an example). Let's say you've spent your entire career as a research scientist exploring the effects of global warming. Your entire livelihood is based on the existence of global warming. Now, let's say that one day you stumble upon some evidence that global warming doesn't exist. You have two options; try to find another job after sucking up "defeat" in your area of study, or try to continue your study of global warming through "creative" research reporting.

If you're an independent scientist and jump into a field of research you have both money and pride making you want to show your research is right. Like I said though, I'm just playing devil's advocate trying to show the rationale behind the fabrication of results by independent scientists; money and pride.

I'm sure if you put any type of acid in a test tube with AIDS (HIV), you're going to get some results, but in vitro to in vivo is a big jump.

They injected 32 HIV positive individuals with glycyrrhizic acid (licorice) daily for 3 to 7 years. 36 more infected individuals received placebo.

The results for 100% of the infected individuals (that's 32 out of 32) after the 3-7 year test period?

HIV had not progressed at all and their immune systems had not deteriorated at all.

Great!, right?

So where are the follow up tests? Why isn't this big news? Why weren't more tests done?

Well, they are, but unfortunately the FDA needs to be paid massive sums of money both directly and indirectly (through research, etc) before a drug can even be considered for use by pharmaceutical companies.

Also, natural supplements are OFF LIMITS to pharmaceutical companies, and they can not be labeled with their effective uses. For example, Echinacea is known and proven to reduce the duration and severity of cold and flu viral strains, yet most people aren't aware of this or know to make use of this (unless they do their research). This is probably the case to keep these natural drugs on the shelves with no need for a prescription, though that may end soon in the United States in the wake of the whole meth cooking witch hunt bullshit. Think: ephedrine ban.

Similar to how safrole oil was banned in the US because it allegedly causes cancer, when in fact it was banned because it is one simple and quick main ingredient in MDMA production.

But can't you live with HIV for years without it developing into AIDs?

As for the B12 if it can for Cancer (not too fussed about the conspiracy theories...):

quote:
These two properties of cancer cells - an "excess" of Laetrile-splitting glucuronidase and a deficiency of cyanide-detoxifying rhodanese - are presumed by laetrilists to provide the explanation of both why Laetrile kills cancer cells, and why it is mostly harmless to normal cells. Circulating Laetrile will be preferentially split by cancer cells into cyanide, benzaldehyde and sugar. They will them be poisoned, since cancer cells lack (relatively) the cyanide - detoxifying enzyme rhodanese.

If that is true which it's beyond my ability to know. Then maybe it could be used to help in a life style sence. Why no-one has explored it is maybe a mystery? But if there is a man made version of it which you can buy. Then surely there had to be some desirable effect which made it worth exploring?

Yes, but various changes slowly occur over time that weaken the immune system, which was eliminated in the study.

For example, they would count T-Cells often, etc, to determine how far the patient's potential health degenerates.
