No. I refuse to swim in the kiddie pool. I started this thread and we can talk about FF if we want to!

Here is an idea, instead of raising taxes, perhaps try taking the retarted sums we put in to "defense" spending and use that for the social good. Not only that, lets start trimming back on some of the 3rd world country aid until we get shit straight in our country first. The business of America is America's business, think that applies well to both points I just stated. With these cuts in spendeture, we surely will have far more funds to fix many striking social problems we have in this country. However, I think the point that is being lost here is that both parties want as big and overreaching of a government as money will allow. I have yet to hear of either side making compelling arguements of how we need to start balancing our budget. Sure Dems are on the right track as they want to solve social problems and sure Reps are on the right track when they want to defend our country. However, both parties are full enthralled in the American belief in limitless abundance, in this case, money. Are the Dems or Reps socialist? Come on. But, are they both for big government. No arguement.

You payed $20k in taxes and find it "rather difficult " to buy a new car? I'am going to call BULLSHIT. You made more $$ than a large % of the USA POPULATION and yet you find it "rather difficult" to buy a new car? what kinda car are you trying to buy? Fuk The last time I went shopping for a car (yrs ago) they couldn't bendover more to get me into a new car. I walked away without buying as I was just TROLLING and yet they wanted me to sell a new car almost $13k below sticker price....

So I say your full of shit if you say its too much $$ to buy a new car.

Again WTF kinda car are you looking at ??

You don't know what my other financial obligations are. I regret posting a number like I did because it comes across as gauche and tacky, and for that I apologize. But for your information, I have a wife, a mortgage, 2 cars, insurance, a student loan that I'll be paying off until I'm 40, etc, etc, etc. It's sad, but the more money you make, the more you'll generally find ways to spend it. And yeah, I don't want to buy a piece of shit car. I've never owned a new car in my life and want to get something that is nice (but not too nice), dependable and will last me a long time. Supporting a family can be a real bitch sometimes.

My point wasn't to say that "woe is me, I'm too poor to get a new car", rather I meant to convey more that with such a large chunk of every paycheck going to Uncle Sam, it can be quite a challenge to find the extra monthly cash flow to get a new car. Having not had a car payment in a long time (since my car has been paid for for about 5 years, though it has about 140K miles on it and is starting to fall apart), I have to figure out where the additional funds will come from and where I'll have to adjust elsewhere.

Apologies to all if I came across like I think I may have. It was not intended that way.

fuck that man. theres nothing wrong with being pissed at the government for taking your money and bitching about how much you pay. though i agree with taxation i also get furious (even on the small-scale in my government agency) at wastage that governments are infamous for.

out of curiosity, what are the marginal tax rates in the US?

for the financial year 06-07 in australia it is

0-$6000: 0$
6,001 – $25,000: 15c for each $1 over $6,000
$25,001 – $75,000: $2,850 plus 30c for each $1 over $25,000
$75,001 – $150,000: $17,850 plus 40c for each $1 over $75,000
Over $150,000: $47,850 plus 45c for each $1 over $150,000

The lowest rate is 15% but the top rate is 35% I believe. It was higher than that prior to the first round of Bush tax cuts. As for where the step-ups are, here's a link I found. I think it's correct. Man--your tax rates are steeper than ours!

There are times I think that if I had stayed single and in an apartment I could be living like a pimp right now, but life happens and there are more important things than money, though it's way to easy to get hung up on it. Mo money, mo problems!
