i'm sorry but you make me f-ing sick. the first mixing i did was on a portable cd player and my parents 30 year old turntable with a knob pitch control. yes i could only do one transition at a time. does that make me a proper dj?

/disgruntled dj

o.k. don't cry its only an opinion, a dj is called a "disc jockey" if you use cd decks you're not jockeying the record like you are with vinyl. Also you can't get better sound quality than vinyl, so therefore its the best. imo.

Wow. Just.... wow.

The level of idiocy permeating this thread has reached record highs.

I don't know about that. There's been a fucking LOT of stupid on the World Wide Wank.

PS: I first learned to DJ on two tape decks. Seriously!

CD vs Vinyl is an question that can not be answered by God himself...

anyways if you're serious about it why not try both? Infact try digital as well and see which ones work for you. Hell you can mix them all at the same time.

I would like to thank the parties involved in this thread for making my first visit to TA music section in a few weeks a worthwhile one. lol. By the way I would also like to add that even if you use vinyl you're not a REAL disc jockey.. because you don't ride the record around like a horse jockey does. Bunch of fucking fakers.

To point out the obvious though:

EDM tracks are delivered as digital files to the manufacturer. So if you take that bit of breaking news you can realize the closest you are going to get to an exact replica is a digital wav file. Records at their very best are as close to a perfect copy of that digital file as a vinyl press allows.. but obviously not every record put out is a perfect pressing.

You will limit yourself with this attitude. So many of the new tunes are released on promo CD to DJ's for the simple reason that the producer can knock out 100 promo CD's for around £20. 100 promo vinyls are around £350.

Get yourself a mixer with more than 3 channels and an SD card input (or equivalent) then you can upgrade from two vinyl decks, add some CD decks and mix off the SD card. Such a set up will allow you to mix from any format.

As for being a 'proper DJ'. I have no idea how to define that but it definately isn't someone who limits themself to one format of recorded media I.E. Vinyl only.
