This is no scandal, it's just being made out that way by the Republicans/Bush Administration/Conservative Pundits. It's NOTHING, I mean NOTHING as bad as what the Republicans have done and said. He was speaking his mind, he wasn't talking about our troops...it's just being blown out of proporation and misrepresented. Sure Kerry should watch what he says, but where's the outrage when Bush says "Voting for the Democrats is a win for the Terrorists"??

There are different levels of everything. Just like stealing a pack of gum isn't the same as killing someone, making a speaking error isn't the same as trying to hook up with teenagers, especially when you're in the party that is supposed to portray upstanding moral values.

look, he injected himself on the national debate and failed again miserabley.<--spelling? all criticism stems from that action. his and no one else's

this is not some Republican "distraction" from the real issue ok? this is a "reflection" of this man's, quite possibly most liberal's, contempt for the US military. don't think for one second this was the first time he's shown his true stripes. it goes back 35 years to 1971 for this man and the people he spoke for back then.

if he's gonna walk the walk, especially now, then the talk is fair game.

He left out a word that completely changed the context, so he apologized if he offended people. I don't really see that as a flip flop, but more of a

Even if he meant it the way the (liberal ) media is portraying it, what's the big deal? Personally I don't care if he meant it or not. Whether people want to admit it, what he said is true.

Even taken as originally stated, he didn't say they were stupid if they were in Iraq and that only people who failed ended up there. He was saying that if you don't do well in school, your options are more limited and that Iraq, which isn't a place most people want to go, starts to become a more attractive option. Military service pays pretty well, even for a hazardous job, offers a good career plan, and gives you the ability to see more of the world. And it is still available to most people, regardless of previous mistakes.

Which ever way we rationalize it, it wasn't the brightest thing to say, jokingly or not.

As Opus suggested, Foot in Mouth disease...

Not the smartest thing, but if I were him, I wouldn't have even attempted to say it was an accident and rationalized it like I did, because it is reality. In no way did he say that if you were a soldier, you were stupid and a collegiate failure. The problem is that's how the media and the GOP jumped on it and Kerry's too big of a political pussy to actually stand up for himself.

See this is the problem, Bush, an idiot, will at least try to defend himself, which is why people thought he was stronger on terror.

BTW, it's your turn in the Risk game.
