then you have the issue of people "ganging up" on the idiot, and all of a sudden it makes it okay to do it to one person, but not other people. the line separating what is/isn't acceptable becomes way too blurry.

also... idiots are fun to berate and all, but when mods have to constantly babysit those idiots and close their threads, edit/delete their posts, warn them via PM, hand out suspensions, explain over PM why they got suspended, etc... it doesn't become so fun anymore. mods aren't getting paid to sit online 24/7 to keep the forums clean, and it'd be a hell of a lot easier if we could just perma-ban people who obviously have never added anything worthwhile to the forum.
