The worst thing about all of this, is I have no one close to me within a thousand miles.

Thanks again everyone.

all the best mate. I lost my grandad just before I turned 14 & haven't got over it in 10 years due to how close I was with him, and I'm just as close with my nana, i dont know what i'll do when time finally gets her

my grandfather died about a month ago. i don't know if i'm the only one that has this outlook on death, but honestly it wasn't something i was necessarily sad about. do i wish my grandfather died? of course not. i have fond memories and enjoyed time with him, but at the same time you have to realize and accept that we aren't immortal. my grandfather had a nice long life and the life that he was living with cancer was not one he'd choose. because of that i'm glad that he passed on and stopped suffering through a terrible existance.

i'm sorry to hear about your loss, but try to realize that it's just a natural part of life...there's nothing we can do to prevent death and most of the time it's a relief of pain...so what's wrong with that?

i was just taught that mum's parents were nana & grandad, and dad's were grandma & grandpa. Blame my parents I still use it nearly 25 years on, unless I need her attention when i call her by her abbreviated first name

i know exactly how you're feeling. i lost my grandma too, last june. she lived with my family, so she truly was the 6th member of my household. i saw her every single day and she was my second mother. she passed away at 90 years old, from natural causes, and the process took a few days...my family and i never left her side at the hospital and she was "with it" all the way til the end. all i can say is that i'm really sorry for your loss, and i hope it wasn't in tragic fashion...it's a little easier to cope when you can see it coming (like with all old people...it's part of life).

i got a tattoo to remember her, so i know that there is always a little reminder of her on me. i think that helped a lot...maybe if you do something similar (tattoo, some momento, etc)...it'll help the grieving process a bit more. best of luck.

edit: also, TALK to your family as much as possible. i was never one to show my parents my true emotion, or heaven forbid, CRY in front of my younger brothers. the night she passed, i woke up in the middle of the night, and called my dad, bawling. for me to do that, is completely uncharacteristic, but i bit the bullet and talking to him, made me feel so much better. the less you fight the way you feel, the easier it is...don't keep anything inside...you shouldn't have to. but yeah, go see your family, or call them.

I agree with everything you said- Completely, she was sick and on life support. It was her time.

I just hadn't seen her in too long as she lives in Los Angeles and I haven't been able to make a trip down there in ages.

Honestly, I wish I could just take the same thoughts as you're having and apply them, but I can't. I've never felt like this before.

i was never really close to my grandparents so when they passed away it wasnt so much of a big deal i dunno. Its hard to grow strong feelings for someone when they live so far away when yhouve only seen them like 3 or 4 times in your life.

i actually felt more sad when i lost my dog a couple of months back.. Its wierd when you think about it.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Honestly I had no idea this was coming. My family had been dispersed the last couple of weeks (mom in mexico, dad in china, bro in Nova Scotia, me in Monteal), and I didn't even know she was sick. I would have never guessed that was what my mom would have said to me on the phone this morning.
