DJ Mikey Mike is a highly rated DJ:- he was voted in the DJ MAG top 200 last year. Yet his mixes are simplistic and purile. Fair enough they do contain enough energy and musciality to carry the average listener through a mix - but for me:- i just find them basic and simple. All he does it beatmatch and put one groove with another. it aint that hard to do with a bit of practice.
There is no depth to his mixes...its is basic and superficial build up and breakdown stuff with no REAL content.

so in all - it is listenable - and it maybe tuff trance for the purist but yea - he aint breakin bariers or pushing envelopes - hes just keeping a groove andplaying basic shit for the masses, any1 can do it

see how easy it can be.

Wow, that looks a lot more like a personal attack as opposed to a post relative to this thread's original topic.

I think what he means that if Mikey Mike is able to be frank and honest about the big name DJs productions and mixing sets or whatever else, then he should be able to take criticism himself (not saying that he does or doesn't).
Then he proceeded to give his opinion of Mikey's stuff....

That's what I gathered anyway.

Holy shit, wow you can formulate an opinion...definitely impressed everyone..

and what is this top 200 last year you talk of? voting? i'm lost as to why you are ranking a dj because frankly, there shouldn't be any number associated with musical expression. Go back 5 years and tell me what rank PVD was? oh yea...thats right there was no such thing as a rank for a dj.

This is too cheesy, no explanation.

When giving criticism its alway necessary to justify your reasoning. I think anyways. This is a music discussion messageboard so we're all mature enough to justify our opinions.

Thats about it. But i believe anyone can say what they want, and if they want to be taken more seriously they should justify their positions.

+1

I've heard my share from DJs/producers over the years... some whine about cleaning this place up - I agree with them with respect to personal attacks on DJs or people on a trash talking campaign. However, when it comes to honest criticism there is nothing wrong with that -- I just think TA is a very different reality than what many DJs are used to on their own messageboards/guestbooks/email/myspace - it is not a shrine where the DJ can do no evil but more a realistic 'face' of the views that are out there.

Some people are too harsh but there is usually a balance in the end...

I tried to pull out from reading this post before it was too late, but it didn't matter because the damage had already been done...

Anyone have an Advil?

I'm guessing that the producers who all have problems with TA are the ones who can't take a lick of criticism, regardless of how poorly or well constructed it is.

Well said mate. The fact is that people are only willing to take good things, and the moment anything is perceived to be negative, people jump on your backs. I think 1 or 2 constructive posts beat 1000 fanboy ones anyday

I support your attitude in general, but in reference to the above comment, you're incorrect. 5 years ago, PvD was #4, behind #1 Digweed, #2 Sasha, and #3 Danny Tenaglia. DJ Mag has been doing that poll for 10 years now - http://www.djmag.com/index_vote.php

damn people looking shit up - stop looking shit up

point being seeing a DJ and commenting on their performance was never related to a ranking among other DJs. I think thats a western thing, although as above has been going on for 10 years now, just that from a marketing perspective, these rank values are ultimately what drives the revenue for these clubs. Probably one of the best economy drivers because you see ranks in almost everything these days, magazines, food choices, award ceremonies. Whatever happen to music as an interpretation to art, and since when did art ever have a universal number associated with it.

things have gone to utter shit!
