I hate listening to his livesets because in person at the club he sounds 100x better. His mixing is fucking superb, the way he will bring in tracks slowly, with a new element of the next track coming in at each little break while one from the outgoing track leaves is just sick.
He plays phat nasty dirty music. People caqn talk any shit they want listening to mp3s from the internet but live, even his most mediocre set was massive compared to most...

i saw Lawler about a year ago, for my birthday, and was really unimpressed with his set. i was really into a lot of his sets back then and i was digging the tracks he was playing, but... i dunno, it was just boring. maybe it was just an off-night for him but i haven't really paid much attention to any of his sets since then.
i even wore a shirt that said "GIVE ME A LAWLERGASM"... and he didn't.

All I can say is, if you and Rob were in LA last time he was here, I'm willing to bet you would have loved it. Even on a purely technical level it was sick. But add that his dark and heavy sound fits the Avalon vibe so well...good shit.

yeah, that was actually one of the things that bugged us most about his set when we saw him. his mixing was really uninteresting and technically boring.

I saw him at Pacha in Ibiza and that was the set of the year for me (so far anyway ). I don't know what it is about him, he just knows how to build sets that build and build and build with no particular climax, it just keeps going up and up and up
Sorry, Steve Lawler is not that unique. He plays a lot of frontpage Beatport tracks (not that I have anything against that), and these days there's a lack of lustre in his sets.
I used to be a big Steve Lawler fan, but Tribal Lawler > Electro/Prog Lawler, whatever he goes by these days.
