I think that Stereo is now in a key moment and has to take very wise decisions. They can make it even better, or they can mess it up big time.
I think that jumping on every headliners that have made decent or good night at Aria is wrong.
Stereo is going well right now. They have massive support either by the gay community or music lovers that aknowledge their great new bookings in 2006. That's because the club has an HISTORY, a culture, and they respect that.
Now that Aria is closed, it could be a major error to try and bring all those missing styles to an establishment that already has a clientele.
Not because INfected Mushroom went well at Aria, that it will be a good night at Stereo. And IF it's a good night on a short term ($$) doesn't mean it will have a good effect on the regulars on a long term.
They are walking on a very fine line between making innovative bookings (like booking less organic and risky music like Lee Burridge) that can be destructive to what the club is about.
I am NOT saying it's an error, but Stereo is definitly changing right now. Circus is bringing out the guns, so we will see a lot of surprising bookings. They can easily loose the club's vision in that moment.
Trance, Psy, Breaks, techno, even tech house, will definitly make that club a Stereo V.2 for better or worst.

i agree with you in a lot of ways which is why i like the way stereo has kind of divided friday nights vs saturday nights. Friday is the smetimes random chancey booking which attract the one timers, people going out for their fav djs etc etc, but sat nights is the real stereo vibe. i think with this formula they could be very succesful. As long as the staff their stays friendly and welcoming, i think their willingness to branch out and experiment is nice, and will bring them serious cashflow as well. I can guarantee tonight will be a TOTALLY diferent than normal crowd @ stereo for Lee Coombs which is nice- just like Markus im sure brought in a crazy amount of people who wouldnt normally head there.
Thus far the more "experimental" bookings have been very nice and i hope they continue at this level.

Yes making the risky nights on Fridays is always better, since House music Fridays have always been kind of weak compared to house music Saturdays.
But Risky, and Trance, Psy, Breaks, Techno... is not the same thing.
It's not risky, it's completely different from the club. That's where they have to be very smart about it.
When I did a techno night with Monika Kruse there a few years back, they could at least say," well, it's not us, it's this Ravemontreal guy..." But now they are doing these bookings under Stereo. Maybe the regulars are afraid about that. It's a VERY complicated business.

Very good point (and I was SERIOUSLY kidding about psy@ stereo...) I personally can't claim to know stereo's booking history, but I do know I have been very impressed with the names they have chosen to take risks on for friday nights. They have a solid crossover appeal and for the most part are really good DJs. People I'd personally want to make an effort go see anyways.
If anything I hope the punters can match stereo's vibe, as that's the second best thing about the place in my humble opinion.
That's stereo for me, great music and good vibes. I know it sounds very lame to say it, but it really has a good feel and makes me want to continue going there and makes me want to get to know people who go there. If people started coming who couldnt mesh with this vibe, that would be the real downfall...
they have their solid crowd who make appearances week after week and with every booking that pulls a different audience are taking a huuuge risk.
I hope it works out for them - as it would be a shame to lose friday nights to a fuckall know nothing ingnorant crowd.
