Ah right. Man, it sucks being stuck in a rut. Try and get a donation plate passed around! Drunk clubbers wouldn't mind helping a Save the DJ fund.
Y'know. That's not such a bad idea. I was out with major injuries for over a month and they tried bringing in somebody new and a bunch of people actually made a petition and sent it a bunch of times to the owner/manager to get me my nights back...*ponder* Yep..I think I may try doing that. Though I don't really like taking gratuities for what I do as I already get paid fairly and I'm just doing what I love.

Pretty much the same here. After only 4 months of dj-ing I'm on a gig with Menno de Jong, John O Callaghan, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Misja Helsloot and more ... 16Dec is the day....
Well it's easier for you since your a producer to get gigs with all of the big names because people know who you are in the trance and progressive communities. But good luck!

You'd love it even more with some Leet gear though...
Get the plate passed around, or do a raffle or something.
Actually. The best idea is to make up a mix cd of that nights set and sell it. I done that a few times, slightly illegal, but whatever pays the bills.
I've been doing it for 9 years and I still have frequent occasions when I think I suck haha
I suppose I'm doing ok, but it'd help if I promoted myself more... and of course I've still got loads to learn, but that'll always be the case.

about a month ago i was kinda gettin discurraged and the thought of me never being able to be good enuff to play at an event crossed my mind...but then i was asked to play at a party on dec 8th... the party is bein thrown by a group of people in my area that i highly respect not just for their djing abilities but also their love of the music, their love of the people at their events, and the help that they return to the people who help them....so u coulda kinda say it was like a dream come true when they asked me to play..

I've been doing this for about 6 months now on vinyl. I initially caught on quick. But it seems that over the last three months I've hit a learning road block and I don't think I've gotten any better.
There are times where I will play for 2 hours straight and completely rock out. Then there are times where my beats are contintually off and drifing apart, I just want to smash my gear with a hammer!!!
But I've had friends over and they tell me I'm getting better, so that's encouraging. I guess I'm just hard on myself. I think if I'm goone once I should be good all the time...

I'm at that point right now. I just got into mixing 2 of the same tracks at the same time and it hit me how bad all my other mixes sucked. And I am trying to learn harmonic mixing and I am not quite understanding it. But I do remember when I couldnt even beatmatch 2 tracks together and now I can do that in my sleep. So, I guess ya gotta look at the bright side of things sometimes to try to stay gratefull.
Well, off I go to practice some more.
Rock On,
Mike

I was just practicing a couple of minutes ago. Everything went well and the moment I got self conscious I lost my groove.
Oh I hate those moments.

So you don't think I know what I'm doing?
I've been dj-ing side by side with some of my friends who themselves have been dj-ing for years and have had many gigs as well. They where pleasantly surprised . I'm not saying I'm anywhere near Menno or John, but I surely think I'm up for playing in the 2nd room on the party .

Yeah you'll do fine. Let us know if you have any sets for download, like post some perhaps in the DJ Promotion forum. Would love to hear some.
