Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

Here's a fact about space/the sun.

If you had a pin-head sized area that was the same temperature as the very center of the Sun, it would set fire to everything within 60 miles.

Good thread. Does anyone have a link to that high res picture of the Sun from a fair distance - with the space shuttle silhouette in front of it? The picture that looks like it might be a shot of Nou's head from above. Would like to see that again.
