1) Saying something looks like "shit" is your opinion. All of the designs were approved by the owners prior to them being finalized and displayed.
2) If their company profile fits the look, I don't care how "dated" you might think it appears. Spinelli's Deli is all about the bright, bold "90's" colors. I'm not going to fill it up with shiny buttons, wet floor effects or other "modern," "Web 2.0" styles.
3) The blog portion of ColumbusCycling.com is a version of the open source kubrick template, modified to fit with the site. I'm not going to write a completely new template if by modifying another, I can get the look I'm going for. Every other page of the site was then created, via html, css, tpl files and php to mimic the look of the front page. You can't use a blog template for those.
4) I don't like Flash, but I do it. If you really want to see Flash in action, as well as more "fancy," (ie, not my style, but I'll do it) design, I'll throw another one at you. Critique away.
