I spoke to a marine biologist just after a shark attack off capetown, they don't hold to that theory anymore, the sharks are smarter than that. The theory this guy followed was that this is a game to the sharks, much like dogs chasing cars. Just unfortunate that their way of saying "got you" can be fatal.
